Does anyone know offhand if a parrot can have a neurological disorder such as tourette syndrome? If it's possible, then I'm pretty sure one of my birds has it.
(please be serious and don't make any unkind comments please)

The very reason birds have the ability to speak words or languages is part of the very motor skills that birds use to protect and attract other birds. Tourette is strickly a human disorder and can not be classified in the definition as to relation to animals out side of monkeys. If a bird spoke, sang ect..a word randomly this leads me to beleive this is more of a natural instinct. Cats will hide food, and grave there dead. A bird I would will sing, talk as a sign of warning to others, birds or pets or what ever it thinks is a threat. Some parrets have been know to carry salminilla as do some lizards.

cheers

Why wouldn't a parrot not be able to get it? They have a nervous system and a brain, it can be affected the same way that our brains are.

the speach thing with random saying of words is a small part of the disorder. I'm more referring to the motor tics such as twitching and eye blinking. I've seen the symtoms in humans with it and one of my birds is displaying the symptom the exact same way.

There are pet psychologists, though many accuse them of being quacks.

While I am not a Vet, I would have to guess that any living thing with a nervous system and brain would be subject to chemical and neurological disorders.

While I don't know if Tourettes is strictly a human malady or not, I would think it is possible. However, your best bet is to contact your local Vets office and pose the question, they could offer a sound response.

According to the girlfriend it is possible(!)
