I'm looking forward to v2.1, but not sure I will upgrade since I have many mods installed.
Will (most) mods for v2.0.3 work on v2.1?

And how will I upgrade the forum? Won't it replace all my existing mods when I update files? sad.gif

Thanks original.gif
Oblivion.
You would need to re-edit all the files to make your mods work again. The easiest way to see if your mods will work is probably too just try installing them wink.gif.

The problem is I have 2.0.3 now with mods installed.
What I worry about is upgrading to 2.1... I don't want to spend days upgrading each file or something, and in the end realize mods don't work. shocked.gif
princetontiger
I think you will have to reinstall all modifications.

Make a test board with 2.1 (this is legal) and install all of your mods, if it works, just transfer those files over to your working forum original.gif. Thats the only way to know unless Matt tells us there are some massive changes that will mess them up shocked.gif. unsure.gif

That and if a modification system is implemented, you just upload a tar file and move your database over.
Zoruglu
You will have to adjust your code a bit.

The final verdit will fall when IPB2.1 is released of course! original.gif

Like others suggest, install a test board vor v2.1 (on your own comp for exemple) and adjust your mods there untill everything works as it should.
When it does you can then just transfer everything to your webserver and you'll have a smooth transition to 2.1 tongue.gif

When you make or install modifications, it's always a good idea to have a local offline copy of your site to test things out.

Lots of mods won't be working on 2.1. Cause of Admin in lang pack, the code of ACP will be rewritten by Matt sure original.gif
Matt
I will be writing up some documentation on migrating modifications to IPB 2.1 and how the changes to the kernel affect current modifications.

In most cases, a modification can be changed in a few minutes to work with 2.1.

That's really very kind of you, Matt! tongue.gif

I agree most changes that need to be made to mods will take a very short time I'm shure!

That's great! biggrin.gif

Yeah guys, I will make a test board, but most likely I will have to wait for authors to make their mods work on 2.1. sad.gif
Unless I will be able to make them work myself with that guide? ermm.gif Doubt it...

We can't modify author's code source wiithout his authorization wink.gif In case of you wanna redistribute this original.gif
phllp
Yes I know and I don't want to redistribute, just edit for personal use on my 2.1. original.gif

Note that some authors do allow redistributions in case you fix some bugs, improve it, etc. wink.gif

Couldn't we all post the most common mods, and maybe matt might include them into 2.1?
phllp
I don't think he wants to include most of them, if not any. Not all mods are for a general board.
cooldude7273
Matt, is there an easy Modification system in 2.1 or is that for 3.0?
Chris Reilly
Would be cool if it was possible to just add the new changes and skin changes, by doing so keeping the current changes, skin and look.

Saves changing all the skin again as mine is so heavily changed, even the acp
phllp
When upgrading to 2.1? Yea, that'd be awesome. original.gif
I think if you ask IPS to upgrade your board they do exactly that, no?
flesh_magick
They'll upgrade it, but they're not going to go through the files to keep your mods in working order..

if they did, well they would need A LOT more staff!
