I just made a new layout draft, looks pretty decent in my opinion, but I would like some other peoples comments on it as well. Looks pretty good in all non-ancient browsers except MacIE 5.2.
Lacking color, very little contrast. I would add padding around the left and right sides of the text, almost blends in to the gradient edges.
Oblivion.

The shadows look nice but it needs more color, right now it's kinda boring.

It's hard to get a real feel for a particular design without actually seeing REAL content in it. Lorem Ipsum and other dummy texts should generally be avoided. Spend a little extra time and work real content into the design.
That said, I like this design. It's clean, simple and professional. The text does need some padding around it though. I can't really say much more without seeing actual content in place.

It's padded a bit more now, you may have to do a hard refresh to see it. I'll attempt putting some more colour in there.

Updated version up, however I can't get it validating with the CSS because I use -moz-opacity in a few places. Also it appears there're a lot of parse errors, as if it doesn't read the newlines. I use Unix linebreaks by the way.
Still needs more colour , make the logo have nice bright colours, then you can use it as a transparent background for the txt to make the whole design a bit more colourful... just my opinion.

You're getting there, but I have a few more suggestions.
-Use some sort of mouseover animation for the navigation, the extra border on the bottom left me expecting something. -Using a logo that wide is bound to get accidental clicks. -Remove the mouseover animation on the featured work bit?

1.) I'll think of a good one, maybe one making an arrow below the bottom border. 2.) I don't quite get what you're saying? Oh, I understand. I just happen to usually click not exactly on the logo, so it's good for me, but I might change it. 3.) It's not animated, but I may remove it anyway. Removed. Now it's also valid CSS.

Not sure, a nice photo is always a good method... you will just have to take it yourself unless you can find a decent free one.

Update: http://www.veracon.net/37/new/: Changed the 'Featured Work' part to 'Latest Work' and reorganized it a bit. Better? Worse?

"latest work" box needs more of a margin on its left side.
