Am I the only one who doesn't understand the hoopla surrounding this horse race? Why do people dress up like it's 50 or 100 years ago (those hats the women wear...ugh)? Why is there so much darn TV coverage of a horse race that lasts what, maybe a minute or two?
I realize its the biggest horse race of the year but...so?

I dunno, it's just "nice" to dress up?

Yea, I don't really get it either. Maybe it's just something you have to grow up with in order to get.

or its like what you see when a new star wars movie opens all the major fans dress up in Star Wars costumes becasue its fun for them to do. I wish I could do that for once but no I have school the next day.

It's so important it deserves "breaking news" at the top of every page on CNN.com.

Well I guess a 50/1 favorite does deserve a little credit for winning the thing.

I think its just tradition. In the UK the upper class aristocracy tends to go to the British equivalent and they got in silly big hats too. That's the accepted tradition. I suppose with no true aristocracy in the US the closest thing goes.
