Can you say which and why after you vote in poll.

Thanks.

O ya this might help too.

Ant is :

Historical development of cultural anthropology; major concepts and perspectives as illustrated in the work of leading figures in the field. Various problems will be examined in the context of materials from selected cultures around the world. Recent trends will be examined, including the relations between culture and language.

SOC is:

This course is a survey of sociological perspectives-particularly social interactionism, functionalism, and conflict theory. It focuses on the role of culture in shaping behavior patterns; key social institutions, such as the family, work, and religion; and the ways that globalization and multiculturalism are altering contemporary social life.

You should take up the one you would enjoy the most. Nothing sucks more than studying something you don't enjoy.

Yup. The one that will be easiest will be the one you enjoy. Guaranteed. No subject is easy if you can't stand the thought of having to do it.
Jaime
True Rikki and even if you take a tougher subject, if you enjoy it then you would most likely enjoy the challenge too.

I find that both classes are pretty much the same (I took both). The only difference is that anthropology is more focused on the rest of the world (primarily "third-world" nations) while Sociology is more focused on your own country (and other developed nations). However, these things have changed a lot, so now both are overstepping their original boundaries. In any case, the classes I were in overlapped a lot.

However, due to the professors and how they teached the classes, I like anthropology more.

I am thinking of taking Soc, I think it will be an easyer class and that I can get more of my input in that class as well. I will have to wait and see I guess.

edit: O ya more thoughts from people would be nice as well. Keep it coming.

Personally, I wouldn't take either. tongue.gif

But if I had to choose ... I would say Anthropology since it seems like it would be more useful in the long run to study cultures around the world rather than just yours. But whatever one you would enjoy more I guess.

I just took Sociology and it's quite interesting.

Rikki and Jaime, these are introductory courses used for requirements like Economics or the like (at least where I am).

I took the ANTH course and liked it, but I'm interested in remote cultures.

Ya man its a core curriulum I must take at my new college that I am transfering to in Sept. Its like a faecesload of classes I must take before taking any classes in my major. I really dont like it but hey what can I do.
Bebi_Bulma
I've taken both (part of my major) but I've liked my soc classes better than my anthro classes...anthro can be so boring sometimes. pinch.gif
DjZvEr
ok thanks, whats the major?
Bebi_Bulma
Social sciences, get to choose 3 fields from the overall social sciences area. My primary is psychology, two secondaries are sociology and anthropology.

take the one that seems more interesting. If you can't decide, most schools have an add/drop period of about two weeks where you can change your courses with no extra fees. then sit in on both of them.
