I'm just curious here.

Do any of you think its hard to turn IPB into a blog?
I don't think so, honestly. I've seen some people who need help in doing it. Even experience PHP programmers.

I don't know if its just a certain logic that is done or if it just came easy to me.

Either its driving me nuts, or I'm just to tired. tongue.gif

Why would you want to turn IPB into a blog anyways?

There's the Invision Community Blog.

I think what he means though, is how people make a certain forum for news, how one could make that for a Blog...though, what's the difference, really?
Chad
What malikyte said. tongue.gif

The reason is, I take news from two different forums on my site and then I pull topics from another as a blog. By two different forums. I mean one installation of IPB but the two different forums within. Just thought I'd clear that up.
I've had at least 15 different people ask me how I did that just in 3 hours a few nights ago.

Made me start to wonder if it was more difficult than I thought.
I didn't think it was difficult really. Just a few logical vars and a query really. tongue.gif

And I had a crazy thought. I thought about turning IPB into a full blown CMS. I won't but it was just a thought. tongue.gif

Wouldn't be too difficult, I'm thinking of setting up an IPB 1.3 board and adapting it to be a blog because I hate Wordpress.
Chad
IPB is good for managing articles. Just turned out that way. tongue.gif
Honestly, I'm thinking of buying an IPB license, cause the forum I am thinking of going with isn't turnin out to good.
Either that, or I'll just make my own for my purposes. tongue.gif

An entire CMS? You mean like this?

I'm sure they're not the only one to do a Nuke-style mod for IPB either.

You should release how to do that. shocked.gif

Thats not really a CMS. More along the lines of a portal system.

Technically, that has nothing to do with what I am talking about.
What I mean is pulling the information outside the forum software, being able to adapt exactly to your needs.

Its not hard. tongue.gif

Sorry, a lot of developers I know (although I disagree) talk about portals as if they're a CMS... It annoys me too, but I wasn't sure if that's what you meant or not. original.gif

Now that you said that, you know he's going to want you to post a full, complete source of all your files with a large amount of comments. biggrin.gif haha!
Chad
Yeah, I find it annoying sometimes too. But coming from you, it didn't bug me. I was confused between CMSs and Portals when I first started in PHP.
My program used to be a Portal, but now its both. wassat.gif

If he does, I'm not posting my source. tongue.gif
Neither am I going to comment the source like crazy either.

I can give a simple description on how to do it though.

I may end up paying someone to turn my IPB 1.3.1 into a blog.
Chad
No reason to pay someone to do it.
Its easy enough for someone to help you do it here. tongue.gif

It's overkill for a single blog though.

I've got to do it first.
Chad
I have to agree with Michael about the Invision Community Blog idea.
Yes, its good, but limited.
