The next thing that they have planned is to creat a system to take over paypal.

Good, competition is healthy.

For an article that does not require registration to view, you can go here.

It'll be interesting to see how the two not only might compete on offering the greatest web coverage for acceptance, but also on transaction fees. thumbsup.gif

Hmm, I'll be reluctant to change from PayPal tongue.gif

If Google can provide a cheap (or free!) method for me to integrate a shopping cart and CHECKOUT method invisibly to my site, then I'd be all for it! That way I can use nearly any shopping cart I wanted to (though I'd hope IPS makes one that integrates!) and have credit card processing thru Google! PayPal already has a bad track record for me, and I'd rather opt for using Google. At least they are quick when it comes to fixing security breaches and thus far, have not forgotten who got them where they are now -- the users.

Hopefully gpay will be better then paypal tongue.gif

It being free is a good possibility - because Google get most of their revenue from advertising...

Google may very well charge next to nothing for their half of the procedure, but there are still very real costs from Visa/Mastercard/etc that I doubt Google will pay for you.
DjZvEr
They can make it so that you pay the exact cost them and thats it. I would probablly use it myself.

PayPal's rates for their new mechant gateway is great, hopefully Google will create their own and give us even better rates.

I've always been impressed with Google's products and services so far, so I'm definately looking forward to this and it will replace PayPal for me if it's a good, well used alternative. original.gif

Wait and see I guess, like anything new.

I think Google's system will be cheaper than PayPal's, since PayPal gets their revenue from the transaction fees, but Google's comes from advertising. After all, why else does Google offer things for free (POP3 access, etc.) that are normally pay-only features?

Yeah, but in the other forum (Tech chat) I think.

Hey, if Google offers Paypal some competition, it can only be good for everyone. Right now Paypal is pretty much the only choice for payment online AFAIK (other than directly entering your credit/debit card info, which works fine for me) and only one choice is never good. So if you like Paypal, expect it to get better to compete, and if not, well, you'll have another choice soon. wink.gif

And Google is taking over, but (so far) they're pretty good.

StormPay and GreenZap, tho neither of them are any where near the level of PayPal in quality and assurance.

Some of the stuff stated is a little far fetched, but interesting nonetheless.

didde writes "Reuters is reporting on statements that Google's CEO Eric Schmidt had made regarding Google's upcoming payment system. Apparently they're not looking to compete with PayPal." From the article: "Schmidt said Google does not intend to offer a 'person-to-person stored-value payments system' like PayPal's, in which money briefly resides in PayPal's control during the transaction, but he did not give details of how the Google system would differ."
