I was just wondering; why did Matt decide to call his software Invision Power Board? I'm assuming "invision" is a pun of "envision," but is that it?

Power because - It's POWERFUL! The almight POWER BOARD! The board to rule all boards! The board of boards!

The board must be because it's a board... obviously!

I'm not talking about the "power board" part. I'm just wondering why Matt chose to call it "Invision."

That's what I was thinking, too. But, as I said before, I think it's a play on of "envision," so perhaps "invision" means to "imagine the power of this power board" or something?

Charles and Matt really know the answer. I remember that there were a few names being thrown around at the time.

They have the vision to make a poweful board.

The company name was actually born out of the product name. We were known as 'ibforums' from the outset, so we really had to stick with the initials 'ib'. Invision board was one of the suggestions and it was kinda catchy. Whether that word was influenced by 'envision' I don't know, but I don't think so at the time.

Invision is used by other businesses so we wanted something more unique and that's where the Power came from, so then to reflect the company name, Invision Board was changed to Invision Power Board

That's interesting. And you're right about Invision being a common company name. http://www.invision.com is actually some kind of e-business company or something.
