Full Version: The topic-rating phenomenon

It was funny to see how excited everyone got over the topic-rating feature when it was introduced; the majority of the topics on the first page of the forum were rated. Now none of the topics are rated. laughing.gif

Anyone else think that topic-rating is...overrated? I'm not speaking in terms of IPB, but rather BBS in general. It seems like they'd be useful in a niche category of boards, but other than that they aren't useful.

For possibly the first time ever, we agree Justin.

I think it's useless and pointless happy.gif

The topics on the first page were all rated by (likely) 1 person, Rikki and I talked about this. Rikki set the minimum votes to 5 (meaning 5 people need to rate it before it appears) and they almost all disappeared.

Yep, I agree. For something like rating movies would be nice I think... if a topic per movie were created. Of course the forum would probably have to specialized on this topic... What I'm trying to say is that it may have very specific uses that some people might like.

Wheee! My topic is rated 5 stars out of 5! Must be something good in here (what it is, I don't know)!

Yes, I agree. They could be useful on my board under our database category - with each submission being rated. It is a niche thing. I wonder just what percentage of boards will actively use them. It will be interesting to see.

Probably me.... I was going rating mad. tongue.gif Kidding, although I voted on a few, then novelty ended. wink.gif

Just like the news forum. Everyone was all over it for a couple days now there's hundreds and hundreds of news bits with no comments at all.

Ironically I rated this topic 5 out of 5! biggrin.gif
