Eminem used to be good... I loved the Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers EPs. I'm not much for rap either, but I like the old Dre and Snoop, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Onyx... I didn't like enough of them to collect their CDs, but I liked a couple songs by each. I liked the idea of rap more than any one application of it. Then Eminem Show came out, and I just wasn't impressed. A few songs were pretty good, a couple were alright, but it wasn't as good as the first two. I mostly ignored Encore, but I just had a listen to it last night and thought the whole thing stunk. Even "Just Lose It", which is catchy on the radio, is starting to "lose it".

I think Marshall did all he could with Eminem on the first two albums -- the last two were mostly filler.
There's a lot more to Eminem than released stuff! Just like Evanescence, but not in the same way. Just search for "eminem discography" on filesharing... there's HEAPS of unreleased stuff. Disses, for one. You hear about some of the bickering between Eminem and everyone else (e.g. Chrstina Aguilera, Everlast, and Insane Clown Posse) on the albums, but they dedicate whole songs to one another and they don't get released. So there's a lot of material that you can only find, AFAIK, traded online. I cerrtainly don't want to suggest people download his studio albums, but if you've got those, I say go get the unreleased stuff... or just search for it separately. Look for a track called "Rabbit Run" or "Run Rabbit Run". It's literally 5 minutes of Em freestyling. WICKED SICK

And I don't take Eminem any more seriously than Marilyn Manson. They're both probably, especially with Manson, VERY different people in real life. They are
entertainers which means they get paid to put on a show. Yeah, Eminem's crude, but as far as the homophobia topic, he pretty much smashed that one out, first with Elton John doing "Stan" with him at the Grammys, that whole performance, and second with a line from 8 Mile, something to the effect of "This guy's gay, this guy's just a <insert bigot slur here>". He's not racist... umm... period. He may joke about it, or use black vs. <insert racial slur here> based on the person, like the 8 Mile example, but that's nothing new... my friends and I have been saying that for years about ALL races, including our own. So... I guess it depends on how you look at it...
