I was reading another topic a minute ago regarding converters and I found that free converters are found here. As far as I know you don't have to be a client to view this page so non-customers can come here. Surely then, they can get Invision 2.0 for free by first downloading and setting up, say phpBB 2.0.6 from here, then getting the converter (which non-customers can download) and converting it to IPB 2.0. wassat.gif Is this right? I thought you weren't allowed to redistribute IPB 2.0.x, etc. Am I correct or am I being stupid (likely)?

Well that converters page reads 404, so I dont think you're missing anything except a working link
Alahmnat
The converter will only convert your database. You actually have to have IPB 2.0 downloaded and installed before that database will do anything remotely useful.
Rob_BCFC
I have fixed the link now sorry.

Ah right thanks.
.Wolfie
404 for me

(for the IPS convertor link)
Rob_BCFC
Fixed again. This time it definitely is fixed.
Alex Duggan
The convertors require a copy of IPB to be installed first - they don't come with IPB included.
Rob_BCFC
Right. I knew you wouldnt be stupid enough to do that lol I was just warning just in case.

Wow, I've never seen that page... must be a hidden link.
Alex Duggan
It's always been there - is linked to from the 'Why Convert to IPB' page original.gif

Well as often as I see IPB 2.x.x distributed on the net it wouldn't be hard to download an illegal version of IPB, and then get the converter for free and convert an existing site over to IPB. I think the converters should be part of the download center for customers only. But, then again that doesn't mean that people still wouldn't get a copy. Someone had to have provided the files first before the other sites could redistribute it. Same would go for the converters then.

I mean there are tons of sites that redistrubute vB, and vB hacks. You have to be a customer before you can even get the hacks, but that doesn't stop people from still downloading them, and uploading them somewhere for others to get it.

If any of the staff would like to know of a site I know of in particular where I know of atleast 4-5 IPB download threads PM me and I will be more than happy to send them the site url. In fact I wonder about the legitimacy of the site where the links are located.......they are using IPB, and I wonder if they actually do have a license or not.......

Okay......one good thing I like about vB is their IMPEX system.......it won't work for a nulled version of vB.....unless the copy of IMPEX is nulled also. Maybe IPB could come out with some system like this one day in the future. You control it via the AdminCP......very nice and easy to use system.

ImpEx rules. I had to test it just to see what all the hype was about.

Yes it does, and as I said in an earlier post that IPS should do something like this for IPB, and make it avaliable only to customers, and not have it out in the open where anyone can get it.

Yes I know that was a serious run-on sentence, but.......oh well.
.Wolfie
What is IMPEX? Imp Express?
Alex Duggan
It is vBulletins IMPort and EXPort system original.gif
.Wolfie
What does it do? laughing.gif I mean, what's so 'great' about it?
