As of version 2.1, Invision Power Board is no longer backwards compatible with PHP versions farther back than PHP 4.3.0. Are you aiming to eliminate the backwards compatibility, therein eliminating the need for legacy code?

If you're aiming in this direction, you should probably get to updating the system requirements:

You will need PHP 4.0.6 or better (4.1+ highly recommended) to operate the software on your server. Any and MySQL 3.22 or better (4.0.15+ recommended)

This is sort of random, but... Will IPB 2.1 run on PHP 5?

Since v2.0, IPB has run on PHP5 and some members have found ways of getting it 1.x to run on PHP5

Worth waiting for 5.1.x to go final, as 5.0.x is still a bit flakey for my liking (then again we are talking windows DLL's)

They probably will once the version is in its final status.
