I was reading an article that mentioned the search engine Excite. I had completely forgot about it; it seems as though the past few years the only search engines that are talked about are Google, MSN, and Yahoo.
Just one of those things that makes me stop and think for a minute.

Yes, I remember Excite. Excite@Home, etc. They had free services like Yahoo and Google. There was also Lycos. Aren't they still around?

I used it a little, but nothing like I used to use Yahoo! I still use Yahoo! a lot, but not as much as Google.

I never used Excite. I found "www.alltheweb.com" before Google hit it big, and loved how fast it returned results. I still use it depending on what I'm searching for...at times, it's better than google.

When I very first started using the internet, the only search engine I ever used was
Web Crawler. It was the only one I had heard of at the time and thought it must be the best. That was almost 10 years ago... I'm surprised to see them still around.
Now, taking first prize is Google. If I really need to look elsewhere, then I check MSN Search. If I still can't find it... then it must not exist.
Isn't Yahoo just a repackage of Google?

A while back, Excite and Comcast were going to merge/partner up. Originally Comcast customers had @home addresses, which is where the excite@home comes from. At any rate, it went sour before it happened, and ever since then I've not heard anything new or current about Excite. Now, Comcast customers have @comcast.net emails.
They really should have gone through with the merger, but ah well.

Back in that day that was a great-looking site, before CSS and PHP.
