Full Version: Skin Maker

Basically a fully function skin maker that is powerful but isn't too complex. The overall idea is from trying to use the skin generator from Invisionize, which has limited usefulness.
  • Select which version to edit for based on what version modules you have (ie, to edit for v1.3.x, you have to install a module that gives that ability/structure). Would reduce on the size overall. Same for add-ons such as blog/gallery.
  • Change fonts & text for the buttons (including limited size selection of the font, bold/italic)
  • Background color
  • Button colors, individually as well as group/all changing.
  • Have demo screens that would let you have a live preview of how everything would look (board index, forum listing, topic listing, member profiles, control center, etc)
  • Ability to save the changes as a workfile, so that if a new module is added, the template can be loaded and then updated to include the new module(s).
  • Obvious: Export to skin XML files laughing.gif
  • Add-on features such as different skin styles/image designs.
Not looking to be able to drag and drop where things would go, etc. More like making simple changes (much like changing things in Windows display-properties).

I could see this as being a low-level add on feature for IPB Admins to use if they want to keep the same overall layout, but want to be able to change the images and css (basically).

Would be realy cool.

I don't think it's such a good idea; something "powerful" can be much too much for something as small as IPB (yes, it is small). So, adding such a thing can cause some annoying downtime.

Plus, we already have one: the Easy CSS Editor.
Andrew S.
I'll have to agree with MrsSim on this one, we don't really need anything to bloat IPB, it's fine how it is and there is are plenty of resource sites out there providing skins so all that the user has to do is download the skin and then import it into his/her board...

Which is why I said as an add-on (like blog/gallery). So that it's not a part of the package. original.gif

Id like something like Sam is trying to make, one that isnt linked with the board, just an application, I agree it would bloat it out too much if it were integrated.

O would like something like this

Isn't the Easy CSS editor somewhat glitched, though? Everytime I use it, it causes weird CSS errors to occur. Or has it been fixed in 2.1.x?

Doesn't invisionize already have this just it needs updated I think.

All I've been asking for from that list is a live refresh of CSS when you are designing your site. Its nice because you don't have to update and then go to your site and find out what the CSS screwed up or didn't do right or the colors are wrong, it'd be nice to see it pre-update.

Ah a preview option would be nice. I know a cms that does that and I love that feature.

i think this idea is best suited to a mod.

Or we can wait Adobe to acquire IPS and have a lite version of Photoshop built in!
