Full Version: Crowd Safety Steward

So I'm looking for jobs, and one of the things I thought might be interesting would be a job as a Crowd Safety Steward (one of them dudes in bright yellow jackets you see at football matches) on Matchdays at Bramall Lane (where Sheffield United play).

Last night I turned up to the induction training, and was incredibly disappointed with the way the training was held. They briefly went through what to do in the event of a fire, how to behave etc. However they only showed you half the rules, and half the "what to do in the event of..." before they gave us a test.

I felt, along with those around me that if something serious happened then I wouldn't know what to do, I'd actually know LESS than those in the crowd since I've never been been to a game at Bramall Lane.

So despite knowing the answers to what was an incredibly easy quiz such as "Where do the Ambulances come into the ground", but it wasn't hard since it was Multiple Choice and the wrong answers were stupid, I made sure I had 4 out of 13. For two reasons, to see if they'd employ, and because I'd decided I didn't want the job....

Anyway.. just had a phone call "You did great on your test, can you still work Saturday?"

If I was in your situation I'd do the job and write an article on it - the media seem to love that kind of thing (safety negligence and how we're all going to die) these days wink.gif.

True. Carry around a secret camera, hand it over to the Sun, you'll be sorted moneywise til the end of your course.

It shows how desperate they are to get people to be stewards.

Whistleblower was an undercover programme the BBC did into the Railways, Airports, Credit companies, Parking Attendants and then they have other undercover programmes all of which have been interesting.

I personally wouldn't tell the BBC if I knew anything though, you'd give them the tip off and the BBC would go and do the undercover work and then I bet you'd get no money for it, newspapers like The Daily Mirror or The Sun would pay loads.

I know on That Peter Kay Thing they make a joke of the Fire Safety Officer but in the real world they should provide full information. And then of course they should only be giving jobs to people who have done well on the test.
