While the ultimate fashion accessory of recent popular culture is flashy jewelry — known by its street name “bling” — Hitachi Global Storage Technologies is today saying high-capacity, miniature hard drives are the new “bling” for their ubiquity and desirability among the consumer digerati.

That is amazingly sad. If I were to ever get one of those drives, I would actually use them, not wear them.

Wow.

All I can say is... wow.

That little animation they made...

This is sad.

But hard drives – especially miniature hard drives – are becoming the must-have accessory for today’s portable electronic devices. In the world of consumer electronics, the hard drive has truly become the new “bling” for both the valuable and priceless data they carry.

They have? unsure.gif

Unless I'm misunderstanding something (I can't listen to the movie as I'm at work) you can't "use" it, its a white gold disk not actually a hard drive/flash drive

Is it not true? People are addicted to cell phones and mp3 players..

It is actually "the new bling" if you think straight

That's dumb. rolleyes.gif

whats so cool about "bling" Am I the olny one who find it extreamy annoying?
Michael Boutros
I cannot agree with you more Aaron. I only say bling when I am pretending to be like a gangster just to get my friends to laugh and stuff.
DjZvEr
intresting....
savaria
uhh I can't even explain how dumb I think that is.

Absolutely - no-one wants to be seen dead with a tacky phone and the majority opt for the 'stylish' iPod when looking for an MP3 player. Hitachi's point is that the products that feature hard-drives are cool these days. Anyone noticed the number of high-end devices in mainstream rap videos?

Taken at face-value, it's a strange way of marketing hard-drives, granted, but the message behind it is hardly 'dumb' or 'stupid', just depressingly true.

Am I the only one that originally thought he was going to post about the Hitachi company that makes power tools? tongue.gif

http://store.yahoo.com/tylertool/hipoto.html

Anyways, I can't believe a company would actually do that. tongue.gif

You are. The white gold disc is an accessory that they're selling, but it's not what the article below it is about.

Hitachi is just saying that people are sporting more electronic devices as fashion accessories these days instead of jewelry. Thus, the hard drive is the new "bling".
