Kenny Pollock
I got new rims for my 1996 Chrysler LHS mounted on Friday. What do you think?

Davy
Personally I think they look ridiculous - and I've never understood one's fascination with rims and "spinners" - but congrats on your purchase original.gif
Rikki
My opinion: they look ridiculous... Why on earth would anyone put those on any car blink.gif
Tommeh.
Are 'rims' the things in the picture that look like the round blade from a food processor? unsure.gif

Yes original.gif

I'm gonna have to agree with the others I'm afraid! Does not look good. The car looks like something a pensioner would drive. Sorry!

If you like it though that's all that matters wink.gif I've seen much worse cars!
Kenny Pollock
I like it... it's very popular where I live so no local complaints, but people around the world don't seem to like it. Was just gathering opinions.
Vortex-Steve
Just noticed how young you are! How did you afford it all! I'm 21 and drive an unmodified Fiesta and the insurance is £750 a year!

How much was the car and what's the insurance like over there?
Kenny Pollock
I drive with a parent with a driver's permit (until I turn 16). I got the car as a hand-me-down, but have put thousands into it. I luckily don't have to start paying my own insurance until I'm 16. I pay for everything through web programming.

Here's the before pic:

How big's the engine? And manual (stickshift) or auto?

It's a 3.5L V6, and it's automatic.
Vortex-Steve
3.5 V6....

I can't even type in what I just said as it's too rude!! Can you even get insured on that easily? I am just looking at buying a new Focus ST which is a 2.5Ltr Turbo and Tesco more or less laughed when I asked for a quote!
Kenny Pollock
Too rude? Say it!!

Yeah, the registration will be transferred to me on my birthday and insurance is just as simple as filling out a few forms.

If I were to get insured now it'd be a couple thousand a year... but it will go down tons when: I have a full license, show proof of good grades, install the alarm sitting next to me, etc.

You're 15 with a permit, have a car (probably mommy's and daddy's) "sittin on 24's", and drive legally?

laughing.gif ... I've no car, and am 15, and drive illegally (no permit - yet, haven't gotten caught yet, either). original.gif I get mine in June 2006.

Anyways, the rims look horrible. original.gif

Was not given to me by my mom nor my dad, it's "sittin' on 18s", and drive legally with an adult, yes.

But yeah, I'm very happy with the outcome... it's hard to choose rims over the internet without seeing them on your car in person.

Just looking at the spec for the car, they have really wasted the engine! A 3.5L V6 with a top speed of 114MPH! My Fiesta can almost hit that!

Yeah, it's speedy enough for me original.gif
Vortex-Steve
Just seems a bit wierd to have such a huge engine that seems to offer so little power. I know fuel is cheap in the USA, but surely the engineers could of made it slightly more efficient, or just used a 2L engine like most other car companies around the world would use for a car that size and still get a better performance!

As petrol gets more expensive you won't like have that V6 in there!
Kenny Pollock
I know little about engines... how could I use mine to it's full potential? CAI?

I believe UK cars are built different... we go for more power for less fuel etc because fuel is so expensive here. americans get their fuel a lot cheaper and to make it faster they just go for a bigger engine. no tweaks to make it faster like UK cars do.

I've never seen the fascination of modding a car... but each to their own! original.gif

[edit, you replied saying basically that - i had the window open too long tongue.gif]

They only drive 40 in the US so it doesn't really matter what engine they have wink.gif

It looked better before tongue.gif Far better tongue.gif

I won't even begin to mention the expletives used about people who 'pimp' their cars around here for fear of being banned.

Nice spinners man, was gonna put some on my 96 impala, but decided to go wit dubs on it.
Chad
114 MPH!? Thats it?
My car can not only hit that, but surpass it by 10 or 15 more.
And its only a 2.5L.

Rikki, do you mean 40 MPH or 40 KPH?

Either way, thats what we are suppose to drive, but don't. tongue.gif

We use MPH here...

Speed limit in the UK is 70 mph, officially speaking. I don't think I've seen many people on the motorway at 70....

thumbsup.gif No? Really? Wow, I had no idea! Thanks for filling me in on that! Wow, what would I do without ya? tongue.gif

Just because a country uses a certain standard doesn't mean others don't use a not so standard way.
Even though I'm in America, doesn't me I use MPH. I use KPH only because my car does.
If I was in the UK, I'd be using KPH, too.
I'm probably not the only one.

Ignorant American Scum? Probably, but I try to follow a wider set of thinking. tongue.gif

Anyways, on the Rim issue. I've never understood the whole point in Spinners and highly reflective rims.
Unless the chrome rims are stock, such as, the new Ram 1500.

Why not go with subtle? I like subtle. Others should, too. tongue.gif

Every American should experience 85mph on a busy M25. I'll never forget the day I took Charles out in my car laughing.gif

What about 110 MPH on I90 with medium to heavy traffic? tongue.gif
Should I assume that M25, when busy, has very heavy traffic?

If thats the case, then should be the equal to 100 MPH on Perryville Road. tongue.gif

Thats some expensive insurance.

Mine is $350 a year (about £63), down from $540 after a year of "good driving."

As for the rims, they're fine. How much were they?

My friends have been telling me to get spinners for my car (video) to attract more attention to it (not that the hole-rittled exhaust system is enough). I've been contemplating it.

Every European should experience this: my sister and her boyfriend drive on US 101, get up to 6 lanes in each direction near their house, usually traffic is to a stop. As for around here, the limit is 50-65 on highways. Most do 75, some do 85.

Nice car, would look great painted glossy. The rims were $1,399 + $194 shipping without tires, and I got Goodyear Eagle tires (245/45/18 for $280 for a set of 4). $1,900 for all of it.

I can better that. Walmart has pairs of plastic spinner rims for $20 and look just the same as the ones on Kenny's car laughing.gif

I think the car looks ridiculous and is a prime example of a little kid who has too much money to spend and doesn't know how to spend it. Spinners look good on huge SUVs such as Hummers or Expeditions. Not on Grandma's car.

Rims are a waste of money, IMO. And spinners are getting to be outdated, they were hot in some places at first, but its like driving around with gold spoke Daytons now.

Now all you have to do is mix some sprite, promethazine and jolly ranchers, and bump some Paul Wall.

Each to their own...

I got spinners because I've always wanted them. I think they look great. I know how to spend my money. Just because I want to spend my money on something I want means I don't know how to spend my money wisely? Why do people buy big houses and have a small family? Because they don't know how to spend money, or because they want to have a big house?

They were real big here, but started becoming less popular. Whenever I drive by people they compliment my car. Because they're not that big here anymore, people are amazed to see them. Also, rims aren't a waste of money. If you don't have rims, you have no way to get around in your car.

Eh, was never really a fan of spinners. They hit their peak probably a year ago. Now, they are just getting overdone.

Though I have to say, it is a nice car, but it would look nicer with just a nice set of 18" 's, similiar to what I have on my car. original.gif
