I'm thinking about setting up an IPB Board.

Now I'd like to know if there's an portal Mod available for the IPB and if there's something like vbulletin.org for IPB, too? Couldn't find anything yet.

I don't really like the act=home built in portal. I tried it and didn't think it had very much to offer. Maybe there's a way to add to it or reorganize it, but I didn't look very hard.

I don't think a portal has much to offer most communities anyway, unless there's really a lot going on. Like if the admin selected 3-5 favorite forums (or if each user could) and the portal listed their 3-7 most recent topics and the replies and last post by info, that would be cool; additionally links to Blog and Gallery if installed, and third-party mods like FlashChat and Arcade (got both)... linking to the last few games each user has played on a user-by-user basis would be cool. Or maybe if Chat were active, a little peek-in to show the last couple posts in the chat room, an indicator of how many people were online, in chat, viewing the board, celebrating a birthday... you could really put all the information in one place, but if the board isn't very active, the portal will be very boring.

I'm not a big fan of portals, except for My Yahoo, though I haven't used that in 2-3 years. Basically before I really got into forums. Now when I get on a forum I either have a couple subforums I stick to (like here) or just browse the active topics (like on my board), thus no need for a portal.
