So what do those of us (from the UK) think about George Galloway? There's a petition by one of the major newspapers that has over 25,000 signatures asking him to leave, and there's a growing movement in his constituancy for him to resign, here. He's also possibly facing an investigation by the parlimentary watchdog, and by the Serious Fraud Office.

Do you think he should go?

(For non-UK people, George Galloway is an MP in the English Government, who was in the Big Brother house this past three weeks. here is a roundup of what he was doing in the BB house, and what he should have been doing as part of his job in the House!
lister
He went in there in try and win over young people and then in a poll on the Chris Moyles Show 93% of people texted in to say that they hated him, so that didn't work then.

I think he should resign considering he hasn't been working hard for his constituants, what if they wanted to contact him urgently these past 3 weeks.

I personally lost the little respect I had for him when I heard that he had entered the Big Brother house.

I think that's my problem is too. But ANY MP who'd have entered the house while they should have been in parliment would have lost my respect. It was the Paxman interview after the election when I realised what a complete and utter fool he is.

He has so much hanging over his head at the moment though that one has to wonder how he can even contemplate being able to carry out the job he's paid to do.

To call George Galloway a moron is not doing him justice. He is far beyond other morons. He supported Saddam Hussein, who by the standards of any reasonable person is surely one of the most despicable men alive today. During the election my constituency was one of those lucky 20-odd that had a RESPECT MP standing, I was the recipient of one of their campaign leaflets. The leaflet was ridiculously far left by MY standards. George Galloway apparently doesn't want us to have an economy anymore. rolleyes.gif Yet he apparently wants his, not very well funded, party to give him Ŗ150,000 on top of the Ŗ50,000 (+ expenses) he gets for being a MP.

He is a fool, who is driven more by ego than anything else.

That was just downright embarrassing. I could feel myself cringing watching that pinch.gif

George is a horrible man. His attack on Michael was unprovoked and un-necessary. I'm glad his own constituency want him out.

See ya George! thumbsup.gif

He's just a thug that uses long words.

Aside from all the political stuff, the fact he's taken a salary for being an MP for 3 weeks without doing his job is enough of a reason for him to quit unless he repays it sharpish.

According to the BBC he hasn't taken it.

He was on Radio 2 earlier and stated categorically that he has not and will not be paid for the last 3 weeks.
Rikki
Ah that's OK then. Hadn't read anything that said he didn't take it.

He's quite rich anyway. He gets plenty of money from libel lawsuits. It doesn't help his credibility that he goes and grovels at Saddam's feet after we've been fighting a war against him. How he can even call himself British, nevermind one of our MP's is beyond me.

He's a despicable, wretched, disgusting excuse for a human being. He is quite frankly the scum of the earth, I would spit on him if I walked past him in the street.

British Government...

As far as I'm concerned, since Scotland, Wales & N.I have devolved, it's the English government.

Yeah, just unfortunate we don't the exclusive vote over it getlost.gif

so... a British MP, who is currently holding office, was on a reality TV show for three weeks? It was filmed at the time then, and not just aired during his time in office - which I am to understand is still going on?

WHAT THE ######?

Yeah, basically. He took 3 weeks off to go on Big Brother while he is an acting MP. He missed several key debates about issues directly affecting his constituency (such as a train line being built through the middle of it).

There's still a lot of crap reserved to the Westminster parliament, and Wales doesn't enjoy anywhere near as much autonomy as Scotland. NI is basically a dictatorship right now, as it's ruled by the Secretary of State for NI, whose party isn't even represented in Ireland. wink.gif

Plus, not only is Galloway not in the Government, he's not even a Labour MP. tongue.gif

LOL! Seriously, I'd love to hear Plaid Cymru's reaction to that comment. laughing.gif

Thankfully Wales is a long way away from being "devolved" from British government. We do have certain independant powers, but as far as I am concerned, calling us devolved is nothing short of patronising.

Regardless, I, and the majority of the Welsh population are completely against any further devolution of powers. Having seen the complete and utter mess Rhodri Morgan and co. have made; we are, to be quite honest, afraid of what an "independant party for Wales" would/could do. IMHO, there is no further proof of this needed than the awesome gain made by the Lib Dems in the one of the most rural of Welsh constituancies, Ceredigion (my home constituancy).

So until hell freezes over.... it's "British" government, and I'd thank you to refer to it as such! tongue.gif

The Welsh Assembly is a joke, it doesn't even have full legislative powers. rolleyes.gif
