I really can't get over how great that is. Well done guys. I keep going back to check I didn't imagine it. biggrin.gif

Although does anyone else feel a bit stalked with the Last Visitors bit? laughing.gif biggrin.gif
Millar
The profile page doesn't have a link to the members homepage on it. This needs to be fixed please...

Sorry but the profile page is now screaming Myspace. I know for my visitors they could care less about all the extrea stuff it now has. I'm just happen I can switch it to the old view as that looks much better.

I don't see the need for comments on a profile. I mean thats just using up database space. If another member wants to send a comment to another memeber they can just make a topic or pm that member. Adding your friends to the profile view again is a myspace feature and I don't see how that is good for a forum. If it was a friend-sharing system like Myspace is ok sure. But this is IP.Board, if anything else it was a smart move to leave the switch option in.
padiernosm
I think that's been added because the forum system is actually the first type of social-networking. This logically the next step towards the forum system goal. Some will actually love this addition I myself have great ideas for this on other sites I might end up doing.

Ditto. Too "myspace" like for me. Meant more for teeny boppers.

Is this page editable via the admin cp? i.e. so you could use a scaled back version and set what profile options you are interested in

You can just shut it off and go to classic mode in the ACP.
ScottyToledo
I like the feature. It will come in handy for my forum, which is a gaming/social forum. Hopefully it can be shut off in the ACP for those that don't want it. original.gif

Yes it is very very "MySpace" look. More of a thing a mod should do, not IPB by default!

Nice to see it can be disabled.
novatech
I like how recent posts show up in the middle, and how the blog/gallery is integrated. The profile page looks quite nice overall. Latest profile visitors is also a pretty good feature.

However I think friends/comments won't get much use on my boards.

Looks great though!

Thank goodness for that as my first impression was a MySpace look as well.

If your board is a friendly board, then it will be cool.

If your board is a professional help board, then no, it would be a waste, and could actually make the board look "less" professional.

Excellent job on making it switchable, just for those reasons.

It's safe to say, that skinning is your friend. You simply remove some of the features you don't want from the template bits, and blam - they're gone. I know I'm likely to do this with a few of those bits on my own installation, as I use it for unofficial product support.

I agree, I think mine will love this too. As someone said earlier it depends on the content of your board. I see my members really enjoying these new features original.gif

I'm on top of the moon with excitement over the new profile feature! Yes as pointed out it's like My Space but thats what so many of us want because our forums are already communities and this is the next step to making that much more better & interactive! Why complain about this, as stated just turn it off if you don't want it used on your forum. AMAZING job to the IPB staff I can't wait to get this up 7 running for my community!
TCWT
I can see many members on my board use this.

How about adding the number of times a member's profile has been viewed, that would be nice along with who viewed it.

Whether you love or hate MySpace, you have to admit that social networking has become the next big thing. If IPB can integrate itself with this phenomenon, then so much the better, I say. original.gif

I love the way it bring a much more community feel to the forum. In all honesty it has encouraged me to become slightly more active that I previously have been. As long as we don't allow for music and CSS editing, long live IPBspace wink.gif

My members beg me to add a profile comments mod everytime I upgrade, so profile comments being a feature is much-welcomed. My site is just a social discussion site in nature so the overall portal will be very handy. biggrin.gif
Myr
This will be great on my site as well. I've directed my staff to this site to look at the new features and they've been jumping up and down. (well, some. lol)

Something to think about.

Having the profile system like this is a much better enhancement to the current profile system. Look at VB. Look at the current IPB 2.1.7. The standard profile system flat out sucks. Not many people actually visit a persons profile...and many people dont go through the trouble of even doing anything with their profile because it sucks and lets people know the absolute minimum about you. By default there is no reason for anyone to visit your profile. Or any initiative to do so.

By doing the profile system this way, it gives people more of an incentive to visit your profile and others profiles and interact with them.

For businesses it can add a whole new dimension.

As someone stated before, forums are essentially social networking software as it is. This IMO was destined to happen sooner or later.

Some people may argue thats what hacks are for. But visit the VB forums. Visit the IPS forums. Whats the one thing people complain about the most? Updates. The frequency of them. Why go through all of the trouble hacking the profile page...then have to do it all over again because an update just came out that was beneficial for security and features. Its tedious. This eliminates that.

While I may not be too fond of the new pricing structure, thats a rather small thing. IPB 2.2 rocks. Plain and simple. I support it 100%. It shows the innovation that IPS is known for. Watch which forum software does something similar next. wink.gif Thumbs up to Matt and everyone else for an awesome product.

The new profile portal is great. You know what would be awsome? Friendly URL! Like the blogs original.gif

What the heck, you may as well integrate the blog, gallery and profile into one. They would still be paid components of course, just that they would be unified. That would be sleek! Something to think about for the future I guess!

They are basically all integrated.

If you have Gallery installed, your last 6 Images will show, and if you have Blog installed, your last 5 Entries will show. There is a tab for each one.
Cooltad
Yes it's great the way it is now, just wondering what it would be like if it was all integrated so for example www.invisionpower.com/forums/blogs would not exist, simply it would be something like www.forum.com/forums/myProfile with the profile, gallery and blog basically acting as one component, if that makes sense. Not sure if this would be a good idea though as it might make things too cramped! just a a thought though, I don't know how practical it would be.

It could be less of a profile page and more of a personal page. Like myspace original.gif

It is very corporate; it's priced accordingly too.

invisionpowerboard. It's all about the power baby! Keep it comming!

The only thing that's a bit annoying, is in the profile page, when you set your DOB, once you select an option, the editor closes off; you have to keep going into it which could get annoying.
.Cameron
Why was it initally named Invision Power Board? Obviously Invision is the company and Board becuase of bulletin board software, but where'd Power come from?
Dan C
I'd imagine because Invision Services doesn't sound as good. tongue.gif

Invision is another company (http://www.invision.com) so they have to use Invision Power to differentiate themselves.
