I guess now we know why we should shield children from hearing about executions.
Brandon C
That's horrible about the events that happened in that story.
Jaime
Yeah it really is.

Moderators please relabel this thread as "Natural Selection."

If this is an attempt to spin Saddam's execution then I find it a disgusting stretch of the imagination.

A famous person is hanged and now everyone that dies from strangulation by rope is automatically influenced by it? Give me a break.
Jaime
Who said "everyone" who dies from strangulation by rope is influenced by the execution? You sound seriously paranoid making these unfounded assumptions - it's actually you stretching your own imagination. No one said "all" or even most. I think what it does show though is that all the excessive media hype hasn't helped in keeping young children from being constantly bombarded by the disturbing images and hearing about the graphic details. To say their death is the result of "natural selection" is arrogant and shows that you view the death of children as no big deal at all. I suppose you have never made a mistake in life that could have resulted in death? rolleyes.gif

Well please forgive me, but the stuff you post seems to have a running theme. Stop me if I'm wrong. I just don't want people reading this stuff and thinking it's ammunition for anti-death penalty advocates and the like. These events have no baring on the morality of Saddam's execution.

On the point of media hype, I agree it makes me sick. I can't flip the ######ing channels without hearing 911 calls from 9/11 victims and stuff. It makes me sick. I don't know how these people can sleep at night being the immoral and disgusting human beings they are.

Who are you to place restrictions on what should be posted and the inferences people can draw from them. Jaime (as usual) has posted an interesting and thought provoking topic which should be discussed. In addition, insulting the families of 9/11 victims as immoral or disgusting is unhelpful and quite offensive. You may not agree with what they do, but there is no need for you to insult them.
Jaime
Well people have the right to express their opinion over whether they are pro or anti death penalty - there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is a freedom of expression and you don't have to read it. How do you define morals anyway? According to the bible? I am not a bible basher and greatly respect religions but my point is everyone has a different idea of what is morally correct. Anyway, this topic was not originally about morals - at the moment I am not for or against the execution of Saddam. I feel absolutely no sympathy whatsoever for the man. Just highlighting the media coverage has been way over the top and is bound to have had an overwhelming effect on some children.

I never said anything about restricting Jamie from posting this stuff. Am I not allowed to form an opinion of it? I thought that was the point after all.

In regards to the 9/11 comment, what on earth are you talking about? I think you misunderstand me. I was referring to CNN, FOX, MSNBC, they all keep playing that stuff and it's just inappropriate. I don't think those people would want their 911 tapes being played on national/global TV 5+ years later. It's disrespectful. They are playing stuff that they know will get viewers(make money). I see it as an exploitation of the event. I don't need to hear the horrible soundclips and footage each year to be reminded of how atrocious of an event it was.

Sounds good to me.
