Airbags aren't supposed to activate except in response to a heavy frontal impact, so I'd guess it was staged. No harm in that though. It's a good one. (zebra crossing looks pretend as well)
Slightly off topic (but only just) the regulations for storage of airbags say they need to kept in a locked metal cabinet, so this may mean they are not totally trusted not to go off when they're not meant to. A friend of mine doesn't seem to care about that. He sells them online and sends them through the post.

Does your friend go around at night masked and armed with a crowbar and toolkit? Airbags in some vehicles are more common thefts than audio systems. As the person with the SAAB can attest to, they are quite pricey and in demand.
