Nintendo just announced that the Wii sold 3.19 million units worldwide in 2006, just short of the promised 4 million units. 1.25 million were sold in North America, 1.14 in Japan and 800,000 in Europe. Nintendo also revealed some Virtual Console stats; 1.5 million games were bought and downloaded, where 1.4 million consoles are hooked up to the Internet. They’re still on track to ship 6 million before the end of March 2006. This, combined with the success of the DS, contributed to record profits in 2006 for Nintendo, a massive $991 million.

My Wii console was one of the ones purchased in late 2006. Nonetheless, the Wii is an excellent gaming system and by far the most fun I've ever had with a gaming system. It truly redefines gaming and takes it to a whole new level. Also, these are incredible figures revealed by Nintendo. As of current, the number of Wii's that have been sold since launch is 4,207,293 (you can constantly monitor this number by going to http://nexgenwars.com/).

I really wanted one... but after looking for one for so long (with a share of bad luck); I'm starting to think maybe I won't get one. Not because it would be impossible but because I'm getting tired of the whole waiting, calling, asking in the stores, etc...

I'm waiting until the spring, when NoA is (supposedly) releasing the DVD playback enabled Wii.

We got ours (and a brand new one, of course) off eBay at the last 15 seconds in a miraculous bid right before it closed, and were approximately $15 higher than the others. We got extremely lucky. biggrin.gif

Great! original.gif Glad to read things are going well for them after living in the shadow of Microsoft and Sony for so long. original.gif

Only because Wii's are affordable. I love my Xbox 360 biggrin.gif , and no problems yet.

The Wii is most certainly the first console to truly peak my interest in gaming since the N64. I will be asking for one for my birthday, in July.

If the numbers here, http://nexgenwars.com/, are accurate then the Nintendo Wii is doing very well. XBOX 360 only has 10+ million because it's had a year head start. I think with the Nintendo Wii's affordable price and innovative gaming design it'll surely overtake the XBOX 360 in number of consoles sold... The PS3... Too late, too expensive....

The wii doesn't cut it for me. I think I will stick with my xbox 360.

Ninetendo has done good. But people still complain that they break things. Not Nins. fault as they recommend that strap on.
