I think I'm going to become that guy you see in the parking lot, ya know, the one parked waaaay in back positioned so he's taking up 7 parking spaces?

I dropped my brother off at the local Stop n Shop (grocery store), and found a space in the front row so figured "hey why not!" So I back in, turn the engine off and start listening to music.

A few minutes later, the car to the left of me pulls out and leaves. Another car pulls up past it, and stops, blocking 4 or 5 cars from driving. He waits until everyone in the cross walk is clear, and backs straight into my right headlight pinch.gif I mean, he didn't just scratch the bumper, he was a full car's width away from his target, and he took out my headlight.

After a short argument on whose fault it was (yes, he tried to blame it on me), he agreed to have both headlights fixed (one was out when I bought the car) instead of reporting an accident.

If you had your tire iron with you knock his ass out and take his car, there problem solved no more broken headlight lol.

If he's paying to fix thats ok too thumbsup.gif

Thats unfortunate... always call the cops and tell them what happens. That way you get your money... but then it gets reported to insurance... so your insurance goes up. Make him pay for them.

Insurance shouldn't go up if there was absolutely no fault of your own. Someone had a lovely "hit and run" on my car while it was parked and left not only a gouge of a hole in my passenger side door, but took out (shattered and broke off) my side-view mirror, and left a deep scratch that went from my above rear tire all the way up to the hood (yes, it went up and over). Luckily it JUST missed the part of the hood that actually lifts up, it was the body guard for the hood where it stopped.

My insurance won't be going up...and no one was able to pay for it.

You're lucky that you at least know who did it. I'm in the unfortunate place that I can't place blame on anyone except for myself for parking in that particular spot that day...nor can I beat the every living **** out of the person that doesn't know how to properly drive.

It bewilders me as to why people back into parking spaces in the first place.

As suggested - ALWAYS make/file a report of some kind to your local law enforcement if possible. I've heard of a lot of people in your exact situation who eventually got stiffed by the other party. Not much you can do at that point since no report was filed. original.gif

I'd rather back do my backing into a parking spot where nothing is moving than out into traffic where some idiot can come flying around the corner while I'm trying to back out and still tag the blame on me (even in a parking lot).

I had that happen with my old car a few times... not quite as bad, though. I'd return from a store to find one of my doors dented in or a big line across one side where someone got too close =\

Terrible, but great you're getting new headlights.

A few years ago I got severely rear-ended while waiting for green at a Freeway (USA MOTORWAY). I got hit by a woman in a 1992-3 Nissan Sentra. The lady didn't speak a word of English, didn't have a license, and no insurance! The good thing about it was that I had full insurance on my Accord. So I was able to repair it for a good price and drive it still without any changes to the ride.

Although the humorous thing about the event is that she tried to sue me and my insurance company because I stopped in front of her. laughing.gif Excuse me but since when does heavy traffic and an intermittent traffic signal mean I stopped forcefully. laughing.gif

We're actually taught in driving school to back in everywhere if you can't get a pull through. Of course, you're also taught not to park at the front of at the end of an aisle as those are the most likely places to get hit tongue.gif
Garciaaahhhh
I know it wasn't your fault but thats like accident #6 for you haha ?

I know how you feel about people not looking where there going. Recently my brother got into an accident because someone decided to turn without looking on coming traffic.
