Full Version: Multiple files in one download

Sometimes, before we will provide a download, we need firstly divide a large file into several small files and then upload these small files. But in IP.Downloads, I find these small files must occupy multiple download topic. I's not a good idea, I prefer these small files appear in ONE donwload topic.

So, can this feature be added to the next version of IP.Download?
Mark.
Wouldn't that defeat the object of splitting them up?
If you have several files, you could put them in a .zip - but if it is big enough that it needs splitting into different downloads, I'd reccomend using a download manager that does that for you.

You know, most hosts limit the maximum single upload size, e.g. 2M Bytes, If I have a file whose size is 3MB, then, I must split it into 2 files, each is 1.5MB. When I upload these two files, I hope they are in the same topic. Thus, a visitor can download these two files from one topic and merge them locally.

You can edit this setting in your php.ini file from what other members have told me.

I believe the whole point of .zip is for this purpose.

If it takes a while to upload a file through a form upload through FTP and it will work then type in the URL in Admin side and it will appear in the IP.Downloads.

I like how somehow this feature could be added. I think Nexus works like this. From what bit and piesecs IPS Staff have said but I don't really know.

You have a couple of options here

1) Edit your php.ini (or use a .htaccess - details on IPS Beyond) to increase your upload_max_filesize (and IMPORTANT your post_max_size) to allow larger uploads.

2) Upload the file to your server via FTP and "import" it - this bypasses any maximum upload size restrictions

3) Upload the file to your server and just http:// link to it.

where can i get the php.ini??? and what is a .htaccess

I've thought of another example of this, though limited. I was brainstorming further development of my modification manager and found the need for 2 types of files, an upgrade and a full/clean install. I'd find little need to post these separately, especially on IPSB. Perhaps you could take a note similar to IZE's DL system and allow additional "contribution" files?

Of course, I could keep both upgrade and clean install routines in one file, but they're already bulky as it is. tongue.gif

I think EDA is saying that when he splits file.ext into filea.ext and fileb.ext, they are being uploaded into IP.Download topics.

I`m currently shopping around for a download system, this ability would be desirable. We have setup files available for multiple platforms and having several versions of the same file in one submission is a lot better than having to split them accross multiple submissions.
