kool appears we still having that bug you flagged on me as Fixed back on PB2

after first install I can not login to adminCP unless I am logined to main converge page
bfarber
You don't have to be logged in to Converge when you login to IPB.

However, we DO have a separate bug regarding being a secondary group as admin (not primary group) and not being able to login to ACP. That is a bug in IPB I have to fix.
Will L.
also found another bug when I just upgraded converge that is linked to my skindev forums now no one at all can login to the forums with new converge

No idea what zend encoding has to do with user-friendliness...

Thus why there is a Ioncube version also original.gif

Hey Will, what version of IPB are you running? I'm currently developing for a client running 2.2 and noticed quite a few typos in the converge_local source which may well cause the problem you described.

I would like to bring this topic up again and ask if it is possible to get a zend free (no other encoding either) version of this product at some point. I have had two issues now recently where changes were made on my server that killed Zend Optimizer, and it took down IP.Converge with it even though my board still was working fine. With no IP.Converge, people can't register, change their password, etc., and I can't even do these things for them in the ACP. With no encoding at least the only time it's going to go down the board should be down as well.
bfarber
I am unaware of any plans to remove encoding, however ioncube is offered for Converge if you'd prefer to try that. I can't say for sure what will happen in the future unfortunately.
Μichael
I'm sure something will happen on my server at some point to kill Ioncube too. biggrin.gif

Hmm... Brandon, that statement troubles me a bit. Perhaps you can clear up my concerns?

I'm a very new customer, and I *clearly* remember being told by the saleswoman (I'll keep names off here) that what I had purchased (Community Suite and IP Downloads), and what I was entitled to download as a result of that purchase, was fully "open" for me to change. I see that IP Board is indeed, plain PHP files. COMPLEX ones. My teeth itch from reading them.

But I am 99% sure that they ALSO said that IP Nexus and IP Converge were "open" for modification as well. Not that I'd know how yet, but that may be in the future. Until I read this post, I hadn't even checked any of them except IPBoard. A quick look in the ZIP file confirmed that, at least the few I quickly viewed, were plain PHP too.

But I just opened the zip for IP Converge and IP Nexus and sure enough, they look like PGP was run on the original source files. If I'm right, the sales department needs to be more specific in what they tell prospective customers. As I said, I'm 99% sure Converge and Nexus was said to be unencoded

Can you clear this up, please?

Thank you.

i thought i remembered reading at some stage that the encoding was to protect some of the methods IPS use in their kernel. i can understand this, and cant imagine why this would change, however it would need to be confirmed by staff.

Converge and Nexus was always presented to be encoded and Never anything otherwise. IPS has clearly stated that Nexus for sure will be encoded, however documentation on how to implement your own mods would be included aka hooks. Especially during beta testing which it is now.

Converge was explained also to be released as encoded and nothing otherwise to contradict that. I think you may have misunderstood the sales department or perhaps didn't present your question clearly. But to answer it yes they are both encoded.

However you will have the ability to create what ever you want and add your own modules to it. As for Converge the converge_local folder is not encoded and that's all you need to refer to for creating your own bridging solutions to other software. The converge_local folders can be found in the IP.Board installation as well the Nexus installation un-encoded.

Hope that helps and clear things up.
RainbowViper
Yes it did.

Since they provide a way for me to customize as you outlined, this is a non-issue for me.

Thanks for your input.

I think it's already been explained below, but just to be clear, at this time we have no plans for an unencoded version of either Nexus or Converge. Additionally, at this time, we have no plans of making any upcoming release of IPB encoded (however that could change in the future, but not before a lot of other functionality is added to make that a non-issue...in other words it's nothing to worry about for now).

Converge does have some plugin functionality which I hope to document at some point, but the fact of the matter is this application isn't one that has much purpose to be modified. Nexus has hook and plugin functionality all over the place which allows you to customize most aspects of it to your liking similarly, which will be documented soon.

And an even BETTER reply.

Thank you, Brandon!

I still don't understand the Nexus/Converge aspects of the software very much but, with every post I read about them, I'm more intrigued.

That sort of flexibility is often lacking.

And I admit I'm putting the cart before the horse. I have yet to install the modules other than the IP Board component.
I'm still learning that "piece of the pie" and it will be enough to keep me busy for some time. wink.gif
