Hello,

About 40% members complained that they can not download the files in IDM with download tools.

There are 2 ways for users to download with download tools.

1. Direct click the Download File button and the download tool pannel poped up automaticly.

2. Users right click on the Download File button and they select Download with [Download Tool Name], then the download tool pannel poped up.

In both above 2 ways, they will all support the break-point-continuous-download feature.

I suggest IDM use this style download URL:

http://www.fpschina.com/xxxxx/xxxxx/abc-32...9643854-def.rar

The numbers in the middle are generated automaticly and will be expired in 15 or 30 minutes.

Hope this feature can be added into the next release. It will help me out of the complaints on download.

Many thanks.

I can download with a downloader tool already. IDM supports the RANGE headers for breakpoints (in the latest release at least) so I'm not sure why they'd have problems.

A lot of my members use XunLei or FlashGet as the default download software on their OS. There are 240 million users use these 2 software totally. When they download from IDM, they download an index.php file instead of the file if they use any of the 2 download software. To avoide the easy-break one-thread IE download, I use http or ftp remote link to store the files larger than 20MB, so they can download it with download software, but the files less than 20MB which stored locally still can not be downloaded by download software.

XunLei has no english interface but FlashGet has, http://www.flashget.com/index_en.htm , I hope IDM can support the FlashGet to download the files which are in IDM default storage mode in 2 ways: right click on the Download File button and select Download with FlashGet or it pop up a download window automaticly.

I guess the problem is caused by the file extension name which changed by IDM from the original one to .ipb, this made the download software treat the file as an index.php.

The problem is the url. There needs to be:

www.yoursite.com/index.php/download/file.tar

etc...

I know wget, a linux tool, would also have a problem without a url like this. I hope IPB at least has something similar for it's attachment system.

Not protecting the URLs would mean anyone can hotlink to you. I use all appropriate headers to set the content-type and filename as appropriate.

I can't remember which tool I tested with originally - I believe it was flashget. I will test again to see what is happening.
