I don't use facebook much, but I was just looking at pics of one of my exes on there and noticed facebook's software allows for when someone other than the uploader is in the picture, you can hover over the face of the different people and it tells their names! That is so cool and would be a great feature. I wouldn't think it would be "easy" to integrate, but it sure is interesting.

Actually it isn't working 100% accurately on there though. It usually seems to though. I wonder if when it doesn't function as well is the user's fault or the software's. Since I haven't treid it, I don't know if the user marks where the person is or if it uses face recognition or what.

That's when someone tags a picture, they can select a section of the pic and label it with a friend's name.

Flickr has a similar feature. It's something we've discussed....but on the programmers end it's relatively difficult.

Well it sure would be nice, so I hope it's kept in mind. A lot of times when I see pictures I am wondering who is even the person I am supposed to be looking at. I never thought of this type of feature. At first I was thinking it would be easy on the programmer's side, but then I started realizing some reasons it wouldn't be so easy. But either way it will be nice if it does ever get implemented. original.gif

Yep, I don't know if it's worth the effort.

Some of these taggers use an ActiveX control (like Facebook) to allow you to discriminate certain areas of the picture... it's pretty crazy.

Yeah. It could be made somewhat simply - Rikki saw this topic and thought about taking a stab when he gets a chance. Mostly javascript, grabbing coordinates, and such. But if you want the fancy lasso tool and all, well, then it's a bit outside the scope of a general Gallery PHP script.

We'll see. It's on the discussion board at least. wink.gif

It apparently was worth it in some companies' opinions. tongue.gif

I don't know. I just like it personally. I wouldn't say there are many features that can even be added to gallery and it add much to it anymore and this is one that potentially could add.

Gallery really doesn't seem to be used frequently enough on sites I see it at, so I just wonder how to get it used more. People add a ton of pictures on places such as myspace and facebook so there has got to be some reason. Or maybe I just haven't looked at big enough sites with gallery.
