A section of stochastic strings will be generated after the users click the Download button, this link will be expired after 30 miniutes and only valid for one IP.

ht tp://oc2x2.fileplanet.com/%5E1973399665/ftp1/102007/Update1.2.exe

Is that a server side software function or can be done by php scripts?

Thanks.

I don't fully see the point. unsure.gif

I mean when the users click the Download button, the red part of the link changes every time, or when the users refresh the page, the red part of the link changed, so it can anti-leech and protect the source file.

But if it just changes to something else, which is valid, then that really doesn't give any anti-leech protection.

Will have to think on it.

I think the suggestion is that the URL is dynamically created and good for that IP. So if anyone else tries to access the dynamic URL, it is invalid. This way people cannot link to the files directly.

Each download would have a dynamic string in it for your IP.

If I am understanding correctly.

I think your on the right path Keith. This might be nice as an option, but not as default feature.

Yes. tongue.gif Like cookie things which could be set an expired time or only available for one IP. If so, the link could be a routine one(no 'index.php?autocom...' inside it but a 'dummy' directory generated between the website address and the file), so it will support the 'transmission resuming at break-points' feature and the users won't worry about the leech problem anymore.
uberjon
basically a "session" for the download URL..

Thinking about this some more it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. First off you can make it so the member has to be registered to download the file second IP.D has Anti-Leech options already. Maybe more robust options like IP.G has where you can specify specific domains.

I don't really get where the cost outweighs the benefits.

My 2 cents.

If you use IDM to provide files which are larger than 200MB sometimes even larger than 1GB, and everyday more than 1,000 users download, you will know my suggestion is very practical.

If there are no or less complainings from my members on downloading, I wouldn't ask for new features here. Think about everyday you recieve more than 30 messages and emails complaining they can't download files with 'transmission resuming at break-points' function...

Fileplanet, 3DGames, IGN, GameSpy, Megafiles, all these sites have the feature I mentioned. IDM is one of the most valuable parts of my site, IDM brings thousands of registerations and could be much more in the future to my site.

btw, Anti-Leech in IDM not support IIS...

Wasn't meaning to insult you ro demeen your point. I didn't know about the IIS issues as I use Apache. Like I said earlier I wouldn't have an issue with it in IDM at all. I was just trying to give another point of view is all. Again my apologies for any ill will presented.

No problem, forget it. wink.gif

IIS doesn't populate the referrer header appropriately, which is why the anti-leech doesn't work on IIS.

However, the break points should work just fine. I set the appropriate headers (Range/Accept-Range) and check for them. In Firefox, for example, I can pause a file download, and then click Resume.

Most member use IE to access my website, IE6 and IE7 don't support break points, also the link format of the download button like this: http://www.fpschina.com/index.php?autocom=downloads&req=download&code=confirm_download&id=931 can not be recognised by download tools.

Still hope IDM can add the new download support features mentioned above, it will be more compitable with all kind of browsers and download tools.

Thanks.
