S o have contacted support about making it so files can be hosting on rapidshare and such by not using the file extension. but some files are broken up into parts. so here is what i asked in the client area and was told to post it here.

QUOTE
Upload sites like mega upload only allow like 50 gig uploads.. so i have a file. and its split into 3 parts.. its 150 gigs. so when you download all three it extracts all 3 parts as one. But what we did on the forums was link the files like "Download Part: 1
Download Part: 2
Download Part: 3"

I see the download button on IDM. what i would like is like a check box maybe that says "Upload more parts? when you like click it another field or two comes up. and when you fill them out then the IDM download page, the download file part. will be like "Download File
Download File Part: 2
Download File Part: 3"

And i don't think this is something that will just impact me. I think a lot of people with this module would love it. It makes it a lot more flexible.

I think that would be quite hard to do, because you'd be associating 3 (or more) files with one download name. I think the simplest way is to assign one IDM download to 1 part - just make it clear in each of their descriptions that there's other parts to the set, maybe even posting URL links which go directly to them via the IDM again. Then again, if you're doing that, you might as well post simple links on the forums like you did before original.gif

Ideally you'd merge the 3 downloads into one big 150MB file and host it on your own webspace, much better.

Or you could just upload the last part of the file when you submit the file, then edit it and upload the next to last part, and so on until you get to Part 1. Assuming you have "versioning" enabled, all of the "versions" will be displayed under the main download on one page.

I'm not against the idea, I just don't know how popular or necessary it is. I'm reserving judgment until others reply.

I want to give my members a simple way to view and download files. in forums its sloppy as I have over 500 downloads in one forum. all uploaded to sites like megaupload, rapidhare. because thats just how its done. I would need a 5 TB HD and 20 TB server if i wanted members to upload to the server. Now its just adding a new field tot he download page. saying 2 or more download links? if the box is checked. 3 more fields will pop up. when resubmitted its just has the fields as the downloads, download part 1, 2 , ect.
It would be a lot simpler to just keep it like that. If I have to pay for this mod to be written and released to the public, let me know. But releasing a modification free isn't always bad as you have a lot of customers and not all read theses forums. why not be able to let your customers have more options?
