Congrats again on the new blog, I see its reached RC status! I'll be waiting for the final release to be on the safe side.

I'm looking forward to rolling out the new blog like many admins, but I wondered if there will be updated documentation to help myself and my members make the best and safe use of the new features and explain the changes?

Thanks!

Obiously not. You're on your own. Good luck, let us know how you fare.

Hardly. wink.gif

Our documentation for blog is currently being finalized. It should be available soon.

We did not want to hold up the release of blog due to the documentation not being finalized. But I assure you that documentation is coming soon.

Then perhaps a HUGE FLASHY WARNING SIGN about lack of documentation would have been in order...... Because obviously the release left the majority of the users in distress, and in my ICT classes they always taught me to write the documentation before the release too, as to accommodate your users tongue.gif

blink.gif I don't know what to say!

Documentation is KEY to any software, particularly software with new features within it. Would you rush out a release without checking security, or fixing known bugs so as not to delay it? Documentation should be an equal priority with those sort of things, what's the point in a new product if the majority of your customers have to spend hours just working out how to use it?

In our internal proceedure, documentation is the same priority as security and bugs. Though in this specific case, there are unforseen circumstances that held up documentation.

But believe me, we have a long list of things that must be done before any release. Documentation is one. This is a special case -- it is not how it will be handled with future releases.

Well, considering blog has never had any documentation, it's not like we were lazy and just didn't update it. Blog is a relatively large project, and documentation needed to be written from scratch. While it is nearly complete, as Keith said there were circumstances that held it up. We did not feel that we should hold up the actual release of the software for those users who were clamoring for it based on the documentation alone.
Renita
Again, a WARNING mentioning that this release contains components some members might find unable to use without the documentation would have been polite. Just for future reference.

I'm sure IPS keeps a list of variables somewhere, maybe a few macros listed too, or even (we live in hope) some pages that identify the elements that go into each page and what CSS affects them. Surely you could share that...
