I know there is talks of the next converge release using user login, but is this something we can expect soon or most likely around or about the IPB 3.0 release?

Majority of the popular applications use "username" for login method but I was curious about the future Converge using username login method will it change anything with current Converge solutions or will those connections need to be rewritten to function?

I'm asking because I don't want to invest time in building, seeking help or paying someone to do it for me now if the converge_local will have noticeable and functional changes that will render the old converge_local useless.

Thanks

No, the username login is a transparent layer in IPB, not in Converge.

At this time, Converge does not support username logins, and this is not something we are planning to change at the moment. What the blog article referenced is that a user who has logged into a board at least once can then use their username to login to the board even if it is Converged. IPB will silently look up the email address for that account, and subsequently do the normal email/password authentication behind the scenes.

Well that in itself would be good at least, I suppose. Because some people probably forget which email address they used.

Ah I understand now. So that could be done now in the current IPB version correct? I'm assuming this is because the converge_local is changing for IPB future version to handle the change? I think I'm just going to find a developer or put a ticket in with you guys. rolleyes.gif

@BASHERS33 - People tend to forget user names more than they do with emails. wink.gif

ChinaJ,

Yes, that is correct. I did this during my testing of Converge.

Yeah - would be relatively easy to add to IPB 2.3.

Wouldn't we all lol ... I've been working with converge for the past few weeks skinning and the template system is just missing things that was acknowleged about a year ago and still has yet to be corrected. I'm just very disappointed in the templating import/export and same for lang files too and another thing is the page refresh for expanding the template menus which is annoying.

I don't see this gaining any real popularity until IPS puts a little more effort into making this product a bit more user friendly IMO wink.gif

Keep in mind....it's free. wink.gif

Realistically, when you use Converge with IPB, members never see it. They don't go to it, everything is handled on the backend via XML-RPC. Why skin it at all? No one will ever see the skin. Why change the language bits at all? No one will ever see the site anyways.

I'm using it as a landing page in the root so I want the members to see it so it will provide a choice between two links - view WP-Blog and another visit community.

IP.Coverge is setup to do this buy default so I didn't need anything fancy. A good example is these two sites which converge is perfectly good replicating:

http://zedmo.com/
http://tuenti.com/

I understand it's free, but when the Nexus and etc becomes available and people get heavy into using converge, shouldn't things like this be worked out before and not later? After all you do have me and a small group of others who is actually testing this on a different level than sole use for IPB and for IPB. wink.gif

Both of those sites look amazing. Great work.
bfarber
Well, I *could* be working on Converge. Or I *could* continue working on finishing up IPB3. Choices....
RainbowViper
Excuses, excuses..... do both. All it takes is a clone. You must have one or two of them lying around, no? wink.gif

Now lets see what I want first.. Ipb3 or Ip Converge.. hm.. hard choice but it's going to be IPB3
