I'm curious when IPB stopped asking before they started reverting settings and re-uploading files and changing themes in blogs for tech support requests.

I submitted a ticket this evening and without request on my LIVE server I started seeing things change/re-uploaded and then they changed my CUSTOM blog theme that I hadn't saved the CSS for to a default theme without reverting it back afterwards. I spent four hours to give myself a custom theme that none of my members would have because I like to be unique and go to my blog to find it reverted to a default theme that I created for my members.

I feel like I've just lost 4 hours of my life and have to spend another 4 hours to recreate the theme because that's the time that I put into that theme. My theme wasn't just a simple switch of a few colors and the background it was quite literally a complete reversal of the colors on my site. It makes me sick to my stomach and very angry.

When I first started with IPB not too long ago I remember they asked me before they started to re-upload files and change things that weren't in the ACP.

I'm really sick to my stomach thinking about remaking my very nice theme to put back up on my blog.

Just a side note, but we only perform work on live sites. We do not work on test sites -- test site support is not included in the support, only support for the live licensed site.

But as for reverting templates, we do not do this normally without asking permission first of course.

Though they didn't re-approve my theme they did save it which saves me from a lot bigger heart attack then I was having a moment ago.

I understand that you only do stuff on live sites and that's fine but having a "I'm going to re-upload the files if that's ok?" would have been nice so I could be aware that the changes were going to happen.

It really aggravates me especially since its not like I only had like 3 members on I have about 30 members on and had I not been on to do/change/re-upload my images since re-uploading the files does overwrite any images I've put in there (if need be) my site would not just have screwed up stuff on it but it would also have wonky images and content. That's what upsets me the most about it is I wasn't asked/told that they needed to attempt this for troubleshooting. As it is a live site it will have members on it and changing things/re-uploading files can cause bigger problems.

I fully understand that, and it is usually asked beforehand. I can look into this oversight in your case, if you wish?

But as for the overall feedback -- I assure you asking is something we strive to do anytime something can possibly change what a customer has on their site.

You can always ask your host to restore a backup of the files - if they're any good, they'll have one.

Thats not the point. I shouldn't have to ask my host to do this as I should have been asked before anything was done to my server that was that drastic.

I know this is a few weeks old and no offense.

But if you put in a ticket to IPS you should be backing up everything anyways just in case, its a rule of thumb to always backup stuff if something is going to be worked on that way things like this that might rarely happen could be fixed very easily.
