Hi

I can't find any documentation about how to use Converge with another application.
Is there any guide?

I have my own application for posting articles and I want Forum users to be able to log in with their login information...
♠ Charles
The only guides that they have now are for logging into other IP.Boards, but I believe one of the staff members is writing a developers documentation.

Yap, but this is not really a guide - actually everything is allready implemented in boards ACP.
But I guess my application will need some codeing to use Converge.

Hope they will post answer here before they finish documentation rolleyes.gif

Effectively, you would have to create the equivalent of both of these folders (and files contained within) in your 3rd party application

/converge_local/*
/sources/loginauth/ipconverge/*

We have developer documentation already for integrating Converge into third party applications. This developer documentation is contained within the IP.Board developer docs here: http://www.invisionpower.com/community/boa...umentation.html

I already have IP.Board installed and I want to add applications like eCommerce provided by my hosting site.... Is IPConverge will work for it if I want a global user login?

The IP.Converge documentation says that I must install the IP.converge first... so in my situation can I still install IP.Converge?

Part of the documentation

Adding an Application in IP.Converge
IP.Converge is designed to be a central authentication authority - that is, once your applications are updated to recognize and utilize IP.Converge, all authentication requests are passed to IP.Converge to handle. IP.Converge will confirm the information supplied, and indicate to the application whether or not the user is uthenticated.

There are a few basic steps that need to be done in order to use IP.Converge in a live environment.

How to Converge an IP.Board Installation
For this example, the steps below will describe how to converge an IP.Board installation.
1 You must first install IP.Converge. Installing IP.Converge can be installed on the same domain as the rest of your site or on a completely different domain. The only difference if IP.Converge is installed on the same domain as the applications that will be utilizing it, IP.Converge can also set appropriate cookies if you allow your users to directly access it. For detailed instructions on how to install IP.Converge, please refer to the section in this Quick Start Guide entitled ‘Installation Guide.’

Thanks for any help...

Well... IP Converge isn't a generic front-end for logins to non-IPS products. With custom coding by you or others, it *might* be adaptable to your needs.

But "out of the box" it's only for providing a single login point for two or more IP Boards.

Thank you for your reply RainbowViper... really appreciated.

So IP.Converge only works in IP Related products... is that what you mean?

One thing more.... Can I still install and use it's feature even if I already have my IP.Board Installed?

Thanks again...

1) IP Converge works "AS-IS" for IP Board. It's a front-end simply for the login, and isn't specifically tied to any of the modules for IP Board (Blog, Downloads, Gallery). During my testing, and with permission from IPS to allow login to both installs, I "converged" my live and test forums and had a few friends run it through its paces. Worked perfectly, after a hiccup or two with cookies was ironed out by (I think) Josh Harris. My live forum used all modules, my test forum was IP Board only with no other modules.

2) Yes, you can install it at any time. The documentation is rather sparse, but it's really not a complicated add-on in the first place. I installed it after both live and test forum had been in place for several weeks. If you only have *ONE* IP Board install, IP Converge is somewhat redundant. But it does allow you to use email/password as a login, rather than username/password, if that's what you prefer. And if you intend to adapt Converge to other apps, it gets your users familiar with the process.

Hope that helped.

Had anyone tried it on joomla and osCommerce? My site runs the three and it will be a charm if a user can have a single login for all.

It really helped indeed... that is what I want, to have it work as centralized login for every application I will add to my site. The IP.Blog and IP.Gallery is already connected to IP.Board using the same login session.

That is what I have, I hope we can do it... I dont have much time now for this because of my schedule at work. But once you got it right, can you also share it? and I will do the same just in case....

Thank you very much and especially to you RainbowViper for your kindness in sharing knowledge with us.

More power *tiphat.
