According to the devs, it'll be out in half an hour.

You can check their progress here:
http://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.0It's not been updated recently, though, so I'm not sure if things are still on track.

Well I can't access any of Mozilla's servers... probably not the best start to the world record attempt.
Edit: I lie, I can get to mozilla.org, but nothing else.

Well, technically that doesn't start until it's out, and I've gotten no emails about it yet, nor seen it on the front page (when I can get to it).
Though, you have a point. If you're going to hype up a release so much, get a server that can handle the load.

Same for me. Just a blank white page at the moment...
I got an email about it earlier, but it was not ready when I looked. I'l look again and download in an hour or so if it's out

Just got the email myself but all I see when I click the contained link is the default "Download FF2 page" (that's when it loads at all).
I think ill just wait a few hours...

Ooooo dear.
I thought I'd post this in general chat to get more exposure, maybe not a good idea. I got back from the gym and was getting all excited about being able to play with Firefox 3 and FF2 is just giving "Problem loading page.." for spreadfirefox.com

mozilla.com seems to be working now (for me)... downloading, albeit slowly.
Edit: And apparently I've just download FF2, despite clinking a link that said Firefox 3.

SpreadFirefox.com is unresponsive for me too, Mozila Home page loads, but slowly.

Blame yourself not.

The issues with mozilla.com are too much for forums.invisionpower to cause. If we can cause a DoS alone, I'd be worried.

Http/1.1 Service Unavailable errors from there..
EDIT: Redirects to Mozila Home Page anyways...

Same here.
I also have about 12 add-ons that aren't available for FF3 yet and I use them a lot! Wonder how long it will be before we start seeing some new version of them! As a side note, it seems to run a lot smother and is a lot less resource intensive, now using 78MB of RAM instead of the previous 170 or so

It uses less if you compare memory usage after long periods of time. But yeah, the base level of memory usage hasn't changed all that much.

Is there a record for online analogue downloads, or offline digital downloads? What about in a non-specific period of time? Is there one for that?

Hey, the download for Firefox 3 is finally showing up on the homepage. Maybe it was there before, but two hours ago, it wasn't.
By the way, first thing I noticed: If you're using the Google custom front page, and have Digg articles on there, when you go to them, it no longer freezes the browser for a few seconds! Hurrah!

New Gecko = Awesome.
I'm also liking the decreased CPU and RAM usage.

I've noticed the decreased resource usage quite a lot too!
Also, when using Vista, opening a
.mpg video stream or
.mp3 sound stream directly in the browser from a web site or w/e no longer forces Vista back into the basic theme. Not sure if this was a global issue (as in all Vista users) but any Vista computer I had used, I saw this, but now its fixed

I'm really impressed with Firefox 3, looks like I may go back to using it on the Mac instead of Safari
Stephen
Jun 19 2008, 10:00 AM
Well after a day of using Firefox 3 I'm back to Safari, there are still some things I don't like/miss in Firefox. Being able to drag tabs to a new window, the Safari way of inline search and opening multiple tabs to sites like youtube and not having the video play until you select the tab. I also miss Inquisitor and the seemless 1password integration (although that is going to be fixed)
I like the smart bookmarks and the new bookmark manager/tagging.
atomicknight
Jun 19 2008, 03:05 PM
To be fair though, the YouTube thing is directly disobeying what the page says to do.
Stephen
Jun 19 2008, 03:21 PM
What? How is Safari not activating flash content until you activate the tab with it in any business of Youtube's?
atomicknight
Jun 19 2008, 04:01 PM
Well, the Flash is set to auto-play on page load. If Safari doesn't activate it, then it's deliberately ignoring that setting. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not expected behavior.
Stephen
Jun 19 2008, 04:19 PM
As soon as you activate the tab (for the first time) it plays

To me that certainly makes more sense, if I've opened 10 tabs on youtube (which happens quite a lot surprisingly) I don't want them all playing at once or to have to go through and pause 9 of them.

Jun 19 2008, 04:38 PM
Yep, definitely makes more sense. Lots of little things like that just come down to whether you want to display the page faithfully (i.e. as the author intended it) or as the user wants.
Michael Merritt
Jun 19 2008, 06:37 PM
I admit, that sounds like a nifty feature, Stephen. I probably couldn't imagine the FF people putting it in, as it could be construed as bloat. Maybe it is/will be an add-on, though.
Wondering Soul
Jun 19 2008, 07:41 PM
So I downloaded it on the day of release to help their record attempt and such but to be honest, although I like the look and performance enhancements, I still prefer Safari.
However, there is a very annoying feature which I really dislike and am wondering if I can disable. When you begin typing in the address bar, a list of sites that could be what you want drops down and you can click on them to save you typing the whole URL. However, I hate that. I at least wanted to be able to disable that and I thought that I could by turning off the history, however I was mistaken.
Does anyone know if this can be turned off or if it can at least be cleared every time the I close the browser because its really quite annoying..

So in YouTube's case the author intended for the video to play in the background while the user's attention was elsewhere?

Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with the disgusting ugly big back button in Firefox3?
So I looked at some new addon skins and all the ones I like have this big ugly button. The funny thing is that in a lot of the previews, including the firefox one, they show it with the big button and the small one underneath.
Here is an example...

So is there an option to use the small back button?

Thanks for that link. I like my nice new blue buttons on XP.

As far as the buttons go, I've been using the small ones since Firefox 2, so I didn't even notice it was that big until I disabled the small icons. It's a safe bet that I'm not using the larger ones.
