Well I have always resisted using AIM for anything. Mainly because none of my friends use it and I prefer MSN. However, a new client of mine wants to talk to me over AIM about some special requirements of a project im working on for him.
So I went to sign up and just can't connect to aim.com. I got the client to send me the Installation Program and installed and used a proxy to sign up. Thinking that it was just a Web Server problem. However, turns out I just can't connect to anything to do with AIM/AOL, including through the actual program.
Two users on my site also reported this problem. Coincidently I know three others that are unable to connect and we are all from the UK. Does anyone think that this could be an ISP issue or something? AOL banning certain ISP's from accessing their service?

AIM has been flaky today. Keep trying, I'd imagine it'll fix itself eventually.

Reading on the Cerulean forums, it's only affecting specific users at the moment.
Errm...

Although I'll give you that that statement holds water... we can't correlate between *minimal* downtime and suckage. (Excessive does though.)
I mean Amazon and Twitter don't suck do they?

I see.
I was also surprised yesterday when MSN went down for around an hour...seemed to hit the UK servers then the US servers..about half an hour downtime each side of the big ocean xD
Well ill give AIM a few hours and see what's what!

I prefer Digsby or Pidgin if im on my Linux System

Even so, they still need to connect to the individual message server (MSN, AIM) which is what im unable to do in the case of AIM.

Well, I know. But if you just use AIM to talk to one person, might as well use Meebo. It is all web-based, so don't need to download anything.

Fair point

Yes that may very well be the case but I have no choice but to use this to communicate with a Client that refuses to use anything else...

Sorry sir, won't happen again.I recently downloaded AIM (today in fact) and it has come a long way since I last used it. I don't like the lack of an option to stop it from loading when I log on and I don't like the countless ads, but its interface is a little more appealing.
Never heard of GAIM though.

I too have never heard of GAIM. After speaking to the one guy I needed to on AIM I removed it. Rather use Meebo than have it installed.
Just another typical AOL product. Littered with adverts and just about does what it needs to.

They've actually renamed GAIM to Pidgin.
http://www.pidgin.im/Basically, its a little program that allows you to use all your IM programs at once, all within one application.

There is an option somewhere, because neither MSN nor AIM load up when I boot up my computer.
