You know when know the name of something but you simply cannot remember it? I have that. What is the name of the bit on top of the shoulder on a shirt? It's a little flap of material pinned down by a button. It's quite fashionable and you see it on a lot of casual shirts.

Isn't an epaulette specifically the thing you put on the shoulder strap? like not the actual strap itself

Nah I'm pretty sure it can be the flappy bit too on casual shirts!
