How good is this show?! It is truly superb.
It's horrific, shocking, emotional and yet there's uplifting bits too. And yet we still don't really know what happened. And if this is even remotely close to how things are in reality for those in custody, the people who say prisons are like hotels really need to go and try it out for themselves.
I can't wait for the last two parts. (P.S. I don't get to see it until the day after broadcast, so please don't spoil it for me

I've just watched last nights)

Didn't see it though I've heard it is worth watching - may catch it later if it's on iPlayer.

Dash it all! This is the third time I've gotten excited at the prospect of an articulate discussion only to become disinterested with more television programming. What's with the titles these days?
You need to start watching it soon Matt because it's on every night this week, so the first episode of it will disappear on Monday!
It truly is AWESOME. I don't think I've seen anything this good on TV for a long time. It's incredibly well written, acted and directed. I've also no idea how the show is going to end, whether he'll get sent down or not and even whether he's innocent of not. It's not often you watch a TV show and don't know where it'll end up.
It's also bloody scary, I keep thinking how that could happen to anybody 'normal' and it also makes me think about just how careful I have to be in my job. I was having a conversation with some girls today about short skirts at school, and how I don't have a problem with the idea of short skirts outside of school, but that inside of school it would be very easy to be accused of something that simply didn't happen - I'm VERY careful when I'm teaching all girls' classes or alone with any female students. The murder scenario is much more scary, BUT it's something I think applies to a lot of people.
I don't know how real-life the aspects of the justice system are or the prison service. But if it is, then it's pretty worrying. I mean letting a guy get into prison with a phone up his arse because they were too many legal worries and not enough solitary cells.

Yeah, that crossed my mind a lot too. He's not guilty as of now, and yet he's still 'doing time' in a full prison because he was remanded in custody. This can happen to anyone. That's a very scary thought.

After last night's episode, I commented to my wife - "If the BBC could produce something like this once a month, then I'd be more than happy for them to get an increase in the tv license fee"
It's fantastic television, and to run it nightly instead of weekly has added so much to that.
And tonight's episode (currently watching) is excellent too

This drama has been absolutely amazing - a compelling storyline, great acting along with excellent direction and production.
I'm also glad to see Pete Postlethwaite (he's from my town) in this, he's such a brilliant actor.
Tonight's episode was even better.
I'm not sure we're ever gonna find out what happens...
I'm still watching tonight's episode, and it occurred to me that one of the reasons the show is so successful is the excellent camera work. It isn't overshot like so many BBC shows are now (Casualty, Holby City, that ilk) but it's done to enhance the tone and the storyline. It's bloody brilliant

The acting by the guy playing Ben is superb... he needs an Oscar or whatever it is British TV people get.

After Rikki's last (movie) recommendation I swore never to pay any attention to him again, but given the reactions from others I think I might have to check this out on iPlayer over the weekend.

Watching the first episode now...
Does he really have to be walking around in the nude all the time?

What a crap ending!
I watched the final episode last night and I have to agree with John.

It seemed a bit like they realised they had to finish, so crammed it all in before the credits started. I think they'd have done better to spread that last episode over two episodes, and explain it a little more. It seemed very rushed. Overall, an excellent series though.

I wouldn't say crap ending, but definitely not as satisfying as it could have been. 15 minutes of the final episode dealt with the lead up and delivery of the verdict....that could have been pushed into the previous episode (and left a cracking cliffhanger for the final episode) and then an extra bit of time could have been added to explain the rest.
But it's still the best thing I've seen the BBC produce for quite a while. More of that please!

I have to agree. It seems like the last twenty minutes was rushed through. I'd rather have seen Casualty bumped off the schedule and this show run from Monday -> Saturday. I have to agree with Nathan below though, it's one of the best things the BBC have done for a while. If only they could manage something like this once a month or two.
