I had been using the Smartftp Client for the past couple years, and they seem to not be offering their free service anymore. I was wondering what other good ftp clients there are out that that someone could recommend me to one.

I have always used FlashFXP since I got a license in a software package a couple years ago. Its not free though, but definitely worth the money in my opinion!

Could you re-host the image please?
Try: www.tinypic.com ...usually quicker/more reliable than ImageShack.

http://www.smartftp.com/

It's on their website.

My "free" smartftp no longer worked and I went to the website. I downloaded
the "upgrade" but it is only good for 30 days.

Bummer. I really like Smartftp.

Darn, guess I'm about to be a former SmartFTP user. sad.gif

I use FireFTP. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it does everything I need.
RainbowViper
Filezilla user here.

Free and good.

Well I'm still using an older version and I don't get that message. Guess it will just sit that way like WS_FTP_LE used to for the longest time. I don't do a lot of FTP on Windows just because I hate it for a development platform but I've heard about Filezilla before so I'd probably go with that for my FTP needs. On my Mac I did pay for Captain FTP which isn't too bad, but there is no Windows version.

SmartFTP still works for me. I might not have the latest version though; I last upgraded about 3 weeks ago. This was one of the beta free versions, so that might have to do with it.

Now that I am here though, I have a stupid question. Has anyone tried Filezilla on Vista 64?

WinSCP

FileZilla is great. It may not have the look smartftp has, but its simple and really easy to use. Its also completely free.
It has a Queue thing like smartftp. You don't have to "upload to queue". Filezilla adds it to it automatically.

FileZilla is great.

May have the functionality but we are agreed that it is butt ugly, right? laughing.gif

P.S - I still have functionality of my SmartFTP unsure.gif

The queue is now automatic in SmartFTP 3, though I still prefer v2.5 for personal use and WinSCP for business use.

It's a good Firefox extension, but doesn't stack up to the biggies IMO.
Master_Odin
I use FireFTP when I'm uploading large quantity of files (such as an IP.Board installations), but I prefer SmartFTP when just uploading smaller stuff or need only a couple files off my site.
Ratchet
been using core ftp lite for a few years. No problems so far and the que/transfer loads pretty quick when uploading IPB files or other large projects. http://www.coreftp.com/
HostPenguin
Personally used smartftp but free no longer available switched to filezilla this seems alot faster and easier to use.
Filezilla all the way use it for personal and business use. Server and Client. biggrin.gif

Just downloaded FileZilla...It's ugly, but it gets the job done. laughing.gif

Using FileZilla for almost 3 years and does it's job really well. Also using FireFTP as an add-on to Firefox. Used CuteFTP for sometime but didn't like it at all so switched back to FileZilla.

Using Windows Explorer as a FTP client is also one of my favorites. Of course it's good if you are planning to upload files that are <1MB in total. Otherwise don't even think about opening a window for it.
NetHead
+1 for FileZilla. It's not perfect, but the price is right and gets the job done.

Windows: SmartFTP 3
Mac OS X: Transmit 3
Linux: FireFTP (Firefox extension)

A while back I needed something that did SFTP because SmartFTP didn't. Downloaded Filezilla and haven't looked back. Not the best looking interface, but it used to be worse.

Wow! I never new you could do that! It's hella slow though. D:

They should use that as their new advertising slogan: "Not the best looking interface, but it used to be worse!" laughing.gif

Yep, it works well. thumbsup.gif
OpenWare
Cyberduck on the Mac.. my only problem with it (v3) is the way it likes to randomly quit even in the middle of transactions, but it happens to work beautifully with Smultron for editing files live on the server. Fantastic.

I get just open an FTP window.. browse the IPB file I want to edit for a mod.. open it in Smultron.. make the changes, and click save.. and the changed file is uploaded back to the server. Cyberduck is also an SCP/SFTP client, so it's quite useful for that as well.

Though in a pinch, if I just need to edit a file, or upload a single file <2MB.. I just use the file manager in cPanel.
Μichael
I kept having problems with FileZilla either inserting an extra blank line between every line in my files, or removing all line breaks. Tried one other program (can't remember which) which wouldn't give me the option to right click on my local files to get an option to edit them. Settled on Core FTP. Ugly, but fast, and I can do the work I need to with it.

I would recommend using Transmit instead. It also has the ability to edit files on a remote server via any editor your want. I used Cyberduck, and it did that to me... but it was an important file. So I dumped it. For the most part, Transmit hasn't done me wrong, yet.

Well when I used Smart FTP it had SFTP, maybe the version you had didn't.

Since SmartFTP expired for me I used Cute FTP for the mean time.
