Hello,

The first of my suggestions is quick and simple, I think we should be able to hide the first post in a topic without it hiding the whole topic. Reason; The first post might have something secret and people find out afterwards, another important reason is the first post might need hiding to leave the topic intact for normal users to see a message left by a Mod/Admin on the topic.

Secondly, rather than posts becoming fully invisible to members, I suggest for an option inside the ACP which allows us to leave a custom message in all hidden posts which normal members would see, staff would still see the real message. IE, someone posts something bad, a mod hides the message, people can see there was a message there but they can't see who posted it and the contents, this would lower confusion if a staff member notifies the member on the topic, other users would wonder what they're talking about. tongue.gif <-- Of course, this would be aswell as the old system. wink.gif

Thanks for reading. wink.gif

I never got way you guys always wanted to hidden something from your members and force your members to post so they can see it because they are just going to post spam.
RuneScapez
You misunderstood, they could see it later if it was a forum game or something. wink.gif

Pointless.

This sounds like a good use of the mod system (it should be relatively easy with the hooks system I'd think) - I don't think it'd make it as an official feature.
RuneScapez
Yeah thanks for that very constructive post.

Rikki, thanks. wink.gif

Pointing at the fact you're posting sarcastic troll replies to the staff? Very smart. rolleyes.gif

Rikki gave you a good answer, and I gave you my honest opinion, but apparently that isn't good enough for you.

I've seen the second suggestion on vB forums, it's almost never used, and it clutters up forums with threads that you can't even read. And your first suggestion, that doesn't make any sense at all, there is no reason that the first post of a thread should be hidden, it will lead to confusion and spam. Either way, neither should be default, it would just bloat the software with features hardly anyone would use.

I was replying to YOU! Rikki left a perfectly fine comment.

Stop trolling.

Surely if the first post in a topic was hidden the topic would make no sense?
manHa.
Indeed, pointless for an official feature. A good mod though.

Not really, the second post could be make sense instead.

Eg:

First Post: Your mum has a flat forehead.
Second Post (same user): Yeah, Star Trek have their own language! Blah blah, what're your thoughts on this?
Mod: Your first post is inappropriate, therefore I've hidden it.

The topic still makes sense, just the inappropriate first post is hidden, perhaps even an admin would edit it later so the user could use it again.

If a thread starts with a post like that you should DELETE it because it's a POINTLESS thread.

I think I am misunderstanding...
Why would someone post "Your mum has a flat forehead." and then post "Yeah, Star Trek have their own language! Blah blah, what're your thoughts on this?"? Surely they would have just posted about Star Trek in the original post and left out the flat forehead part?
Antony
The topic split/merge functions exist for a reason. Simply split the offtopic post from the unconstructive topic into a new topic and then hide the original topic. The offending post is hidden but the constructive discussion is visible (and correctly titled).

Problem solved.
