Interesting.
Some one should also make a bebo style theme.

Honestly, I don't want IPB trying to go for a facebook look, I admit the profiles REALLY need a makeover since they currently like to stretch people's screens though.

I would suggest making profiles 2 columns, not 3... but I don't want it being a virtual clone of facebook. (Like vB did in 3.7.

Ah me either but if some one wanted to make a skin I am fine for that.

Ah I just read that and he does have a point in breaking up the community into smaller groups. Thats happened on forums and can some times lead to fights breaking out between the 2 or more groups.
I do like the theme but as I mentioned not as a feature or the future of ipb.
I my self actually do not like face book and actually found it hard to navigate, it might have changed a bit since the last time I was there though.
I think at the moment IPB has as many social networking features as it needs.
Friends, pm and profile comments are all I think are needed.

The only thing I want from facebook is the picture labeling where you can label who is in them.
Honestly facebook and myspace are getting annoying by having too many features now! A billion thigns to "invite people" to.
Yes I know this has nothing to do with the skin, but just randomly noting/ranting.

Oh just thought of some thing not sure if facebook has it or not but some members even of a forum might like the ability to customize his or her profile with a theme or some sort.

If IPS adds that the world is over... you seen how hideous people make their profiles on vB forums and myspace?...

Yes I have and wow it gets really bad.
Thats why it should be more like bebo and have a few themes to choose from that can be used on the profile.
IPS already has an option to theme a blog and so far thats doing pretty good.

We live in a visual world. Photos and videos is lot more attractive than just simple text. Many folks like to watch than to read and the technology for us to take photos and videos is becoming very affordable.
We also have suffers who are members of many sites...won't it be cool to display these different site in one? (social networking of sites) And that seem to be the new direction now as many of these networking site offer that.
Popularity should give us a sort lead as to where we should focus our energy.

yep even me i learn better how to do some thing by watching a video or slide show about how to do it.
I purchased css, php, and web design videos for learning those things and it has helped a lot.

Contact and ask mod makers, not IPS. I'm pretty sure IPS would never put such a silly thing in.

Its personal opinion, there are modifications out there that completely change the forum system to allow members to customise it. I wouldn't class that modification as a social-networking modification, it just allows a member to have their own profile.
Oh, and for the record, with that said modification, custom themes can be turned off

Well I can tell you why I choose IPB years ago was do to a mod I saw where the mod allowed members to create his or her own subforum that had a customizable skin.
That was I think in 2002 or 2003 and I have not seen a mod like that for any new versions of ipb but would love some thing like that.

vBulletin forums that allow the color changing are filled with ugly profiles. I just turn my profile all black (text and all).

Which is why on my forums I would not allow this to be used if implemented, and second why member profiles are not viewable by the public on my boards. It's not a social network where profiles are the focus. It's a forum for discussion.

It's something that we have discussed in the past, but at this point we don't have any plans to add this feature to IPB 3. I'm sure an enterprising mod author will step and take care of this though

The thing I hate about mods is having to re-do it after every IB upgrade. I use to have the IPB Pro arcade and whenever my board is upgraded I have to spend some hell of a time trying to fix it and finally have to drop it.

IBProArcade has one file edit which is only necessary to run certain older games IIRC.
